I had no idea what real ‘white trash’ was until we took a trip to New York City in 1958. There I saw true ‘white trash’ by the thousands. In the South you’ll just see a few here and there but in New York they had them stacked up 5 and 6 stories high.
Did you hear the one about the surgeon who woke up in the middle of the night hearing water running, went into his bathroom and found water pouring out over the floor?
He called an emergency plumber who came out, assessed the situation, fixed it and handed the surgeon the bill.

He in fact seems quite sympathetic & understands their desire to get back on their feet rather than make the dole a way of life, unlike so many other subcultures.
Here’s the part that bugs me—the media assumes that because people don’t have a college degree they must be uneducated and ignorant. Yet, how about the guys like Rush Limbaugh, Bill Gates, Larry Ellison and Glen Beck, none of whom have degrees? Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs didn’t have college degrees when they founded Apple. Abe Lincoln and Ben Franklin were largely self taught, as was Mark Twain. The conceit of the “educated” class is boundless.

As far as I’ve seen for myself, Trump supporters run the full spectrum of the U.S.: Ph.D.s, MDs, new immigrants from countries that suffered under Marxism and Communism, a Christian cab drivers from the Middle East, hairdressers. What they all have in common is a strong resistance to Communist brainwashing and a good amount of common sense.
You apparently only read the headline. The article portrays the community where the author grew up quite sympathetically.

The Left abandoned its “proletariat” a long time ago. It is now a coalition of bureaucrats, pinheads, welfare recipients and felons. In spite of its title, Smith’s article made some good points. I was expecting something like the Washington Post’s Michael Weisskopf comment about Evangelical Christians being “largely poor, uneducated, and easy to command.” Smith points out that there may be a reason why poor whites support Trump aside from ignorance.
He also points out, “White trash is the one ethnic group it is still OK to make fun of.” The best part of the article was the Vance quote: “And if you’re an elite white professional, working-class whites are an easy target: You don’t have to feel guilty for being a racist or a xenophobe. By looking down on the hillbilly, you can get that high of self-righteousness and superiority without violating any of the moral norms of your own tribe.” Even college educated Americans of all races and religions can feel nothing but contempt for this attitude.
It’s this elitist attitude coming from morons who are indoctrinated by the left in our universities today. That’s why young college students are overwhelmingly for Hillary even though the facts are they will probably have a very hard time finding a job because of people like Hillary and if they are lucky enough to find a job, pay taxes through the wazoo because of people like Hillary. They just can’t see that Hillary just does not give a damn about anybody or anything only about making money for herself. 8 years as first lady, 6 years as Senator, 4 years as Secretary of state, what has she done? Nothing but use her position to enrich herself while the job she was elected to do falls by the wayside. She has absolutely zero accomplishments and that’s all someone like Trump has to ask her when he debates her, “What have you done?” She can’t answer that because she has done NOTHING but enrich herself.
