Obama commutes sentences for 214 federal prisoners

President Barack Obama on Wednesday cut short the sentences of 214 federal inmates, including 67 life sentences, in what the White House called the largest batch of commutations on a single day in more than a century.

Almost all the prisoners were serving time for nonviolent drug crimes, reflecting Obama's long-stated view that the U.S. needs to remedy the consequences of decades of sentencing requirements that put tens of thousands of Americans behind bars for far too long. Obama has pushed for a broader fix to criminal justice laws and has used the aggressive pace of his commutations in an effort to pressure Congress and call more attention to the issue.

All told, Obama has commuted 562 sentences during his presidency -- more than the past nine presidents combined, the White House said. Almost 200 of those who have benefited were serving life sentences.

"All of the individuals receiving commutation today -- incarcerated under outdated and unduly harsh sentencing laws -- embody the president's belief that `America is a nation of second chances,"' White House counsel Neil Eggleston wrote in a blog post.

“....cut short the sentences of 214 federal inmates, including 67 life sentences,....”

You don't get a life sentence for a minor first offense.

Why (if it were Clinton it would be $ payoffs) would Obama do this. Surely he has to know someone will start looking into this and then asking why, especially if these “bad people” commit another crime.

It reminds me of why they created these laws in the first place, drug king pins with dedicated enforcers and clean up crews where you weren’t going to catch them for murder because everyone was being a paid alibi for each other, no weapon, no body, no direct connection with the victim, and provable motive.

Thanks Obama, letting the worst criminal master minds out that couldn’t be caught.

For this (and other reasons), it may be necessary to find a way to swear in Donald Trump as President PRIOR to January 20, 2017, and there is precedent at the state level for such action, in 1979, corrupt 'RAT Governor Ray Blanton of Tennessee was busy selling pardons and liquor licenses out of the Governor's office, and fearing what else he might do before Governor-elect Lamar Alexander was sworn in, they swore in Alexander three days early.

Blanton went on to be convicted of mail fraud and other offenses and served 22 months in federal prison, if there can be found a way to end Obama's final days in similar fashion, he too, can hopefully look forward to either federal prison time, or a federal rope around his treasonous neck.

(On January 15, 1979, near the end of his term, Blanton issued pardons to 52 state prisoners, including 20 convicted murderers. Among those pardoned was Roger Humphreys, the son of a Blanton supporter, who had been convicted of killing his wife and a male companion. As Blanton signed Humphreys' pardon, he stated, "this takes guts." His Secretary of State, Gentry Crowell, who was disgusted with the pardons, replied, "some people have more guts than brains.")

No mystery. Following his announcement about protecting voting security, they'll need inner city precinct guards.
