Incidentally, PA is an analog for the entire country. Bastions of blue in the east and west, red everywhere else.

NY is actually a GOP leaning State once you remove NYC.

Having someone from the State may well push it to the GOP side.

I didn't say you could remove NYC from NYS, but the fact is that Trump is going to get a lot more votes in NYC then the typical GOP candidate.

So, that combination of the two could put NY into Trumps column.

Trump did very well in the primary in NY.
