Venezuela’s death spiral is getting worse
The Washington Post ^ | August 8, 2016 | Matt O'Brien

Venezuela is stuck in a doom loop that's become a death spiral.

Its stores are empty, its people are starving, and its government is to blame. It has tried to repeal the law of supply and demand, and, in the process, eliminated any incentive for businesses to actually sell things. The result is that the country with the largest oil reserves in the world now has to resort to forced labor just to try to feed itself.

It gives new meaning to the revolution devouring its own.

They need to go to Cuba and talk to the Castro brothers about how they’ve milked a cushy lifestyle out of that poor island since 1959.

I seems to recall a pertinent query made a while back when Bernie became more than just a token opponent. It was first made to the DNC Chairman, July 2015, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and then later, in much the same wording, to Hillary Clinton. Asked both times by MSNBC's Chris Matthews, the query was to explain the differences between a Democrat and a socialist.

Both times the victim tap danced and called 'squirrel' which the friendly Matthews did not follow up! Debbie dodged with " ... what’s the difference between a Democrat and a Republican?” Hillary, incredibly, with time to research an answer with the SAME interviewer in Jan.2016, could only eek out "I'm not one! I can tell you what I am, I am a progressive Democrat ..." !

Venezuela, following a common pattern of socialist dreams, may have had equal problems with distinguishing between a progressive Democrat and socialism. Just how far down this 'slope' are they willing to slip before they CAN IDENTIFY a difference?

Soviet sugar daddy. I was going to make a facetious comment about Maduro cozying up to the Iranians or the North Koreans, but Chavez already thought of that for real.

Their next step is to “feel the Bern.” It will get much worse in Venezuela. Much worse.

I feel sad for the Venezuelan people who did not vote for this. Beautiful country that has been stolen from them by the political elite.

We may have much in common with them if the media gets their way in November.

It’s called “socialism” and the WaPo supports it being done here.

If it got any worse, it would become Ethiopia.

SANTIAGO – Mexico, Venezuela and Guatemala have been included on a list of the 10 countries with the highest obesity rates last year among people over 15.

The projection for 2020 is that six of the 10 most obese nations will be in the Latin American region: Venezuela, Guatemala, Uruguay, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.

WaPo doesn’t see this as a failure of socialism. In their warped minds and in the minds of millions American socialist/communist OUR socialist/communist are far too smart to allow such a failure here.

Correct. I am surprised that the “Washington Post” would run a story that says

It has tried to repeal the law of supply and demand, and, in the process, eliminated any incentive for businesses to actually sell things.

A very sad situation for the people who are just trying to survive. I wish someone would wrest that country from these corrupt so-called leaders and bring this country into the 20th Century...they have to be there before they can join us in the 21st Century!

Populism is a path toward tyranny of the majority. Constitutionalism is our only salvation. Our Framers who seem to be out-of-favor even in this forum with neo-populists certainly knew that, the French Revolution confirmed that, we forget it at our peril.

I immodestly quote myself

Referring to our discussion of populism, and I ask what stands between liberty and the mob in Venezuela? What is the difference between socialism and populism in Venezuela? It is the Constitution which protects us and hopefully prevents us from becoming another Venezuela.

I watched this show, a docuseries, an American woman went there and she need feminine hygiene products and the damn stores get sold out in 30 seconds so she had to go to a smuggler to get it. People are needing to pay smugglers to get them everyday items. Terrible. And it’s been like that for at least a couple years now.
