A primer on Seattle’s new first-come, first-served renters law (race to the bottom continues)

Seattle is apparently breaking new ground by requiring landlords in the city to rent their housing units to qualified applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Officials say they’re unaware of any other U.S. city with a policy like the one the Seattle City Council approved Monday, along with other rental-housing changes.

The goal is to ensure prospective renters are treated equally, according to Councilmember Lisa Herbold, who championed the policy. When landlords pick one renter among multiple qualified applicants, their own biases — conscious or unconscious — may come into play, she says.

Sounds like Lisa has a few biases of her own that need to be addressed.

Have any liberal policies ever produced good results?

Why do we never talk about the failures of the war on poverty for example??

Is there any liberal feel good do gooder policy, which when enacted, has been found to be successful and turns out to be good for society???

Any liberal policies helped our schools?,,, Help get people out of poverty, fight crime, provide better housing ..... Anything? Can liberals point to any success stories from liberal policies???¿

Now for the new stricter rental agreements, including 100% coverage renters insurance... and other policies to protect the owner. Shouldn’t cost much./s

Now just wait for the outrage that comes after the "leisure class" isn't motivated enough to be first in line for the rentals.

Anyone wanna wager a bet?

Renting is always about the numbers! liberals think landlords need to take an economic loss and other risks to to satisfy their view of the world.

It's not about equality; its about interfering in a person's right to engage in business they way they see fit.

In another 'first', Seattle grocery shoppers are now required to blindly pick up fruits or vegetables with no concern for whether they are fresh, damaged, or completely rotten. Store employees will stand by each rack and hand out the requested vegetable/fruit when asked.

No refunds.

QUALIFIED applicants on a first-come, first-served basis.

I require a credit check a criminal check and a quick trip to see how you take care of your current domicile. That would be my qualifications of a tenant.

Post #17 was meant to be total sarcasm. I apologize for not putting the (/s) on there. I just thought it was so obvious it wasn’t needed.
