A prominent college president offers some bold advice to the next U.S. president.
Hillary Clinton is to win this November, she needs to motivate the electorate to come out to vote for something more than a justified aversion to Donald Trump.
Particularly for younger voters and voters with families, she has to capture their imaginations with a bold, simple, and common sense proposal to address one of the most critical financial and social problems currently facing a generation: the student loan crisis. And she needs to do so in a way that can do the most immediate good for the nation at large.
First, all outstanding student loan debt should be forgiven. Second, a new loan program should be created that is tied to incentives for college graduates to choose careers in public service and which indexes repayment to income
It will surely dissuade any Bernie voters from going to Trump.

Quite true. And of course the banksters bribed Congress to exempt student loans from bankruptcy. I support eliminating that exemption. That would allow those who really will never be able to pay them back some relief (along with the negative consequences of a BK), while not allowing high income deadbeats a free pass.
They’re not talking about a comprehensive fix...this is a political bribe, using taxpayer money. It’s about getting votes.
It was a mediocre 4 peacetime years in a screwed up place. The reserves were OK. The NG and me really didn’t mix but honorably discharged anyway.
Why? To get 1,000,000 new votes. Duh!
Home ownership is one of the surest paths to prosperity. In order to promote more home ownership, the government should forgive all mortgage debt obligations before they forgive college loans. With the new money freed up from paying mortgages, families could plow that payment into colleges or into wind-powered cars. This is fun - playing Santa with other peoples property.

Forgiving all student loans... aka taxpayers left holding the bag.
I believe forgiven loans are taxable as income.
