New York is the “least free” state of any in the nation because of its high taxes and heavy-handed rules controlling daily life, according to a study released Monday.

The Cato Institute analysis ranked New York dead last for economic and personal freedom.

New Hampshire, which has no sales tax and whose motto is “Live Free or Die,” was ranked No. 1.

By comparison, New York symbolizes big government run amok, the report from the conservative libertarian group said.

“New York looks set to remain the least free state for many years to come,” the group said. …

Intereting point. Is freedom is being judeged by the volume of regressive law or what the population is actually doing. Sadly, what happens is the laws are dragged out to make a few high profile examples to keep the remainder subservient. In NYs particular situation with the Safe Act I wonder how many have chose to simply give the single finger slaute and go on with life.

Funny how all the big liberal states have the highest municipal bankruptcy rates, highest tax rates, most regulation, the least jobs, the least friendly people, and are having to leave their states just to survive. Coincidence? I think not. People are miserable there because of bad leadership or none at all. The problem is they are bringing their bad attitudes, habits and problems to our states.

Hard to believe I left NY to come to the Peoples Republic of Maryland ...

*************

You went from the frying pan into the fire. lol

Well you can leave Maryland just like lots of other people are currently doing. Although it has a Republican governor (temporarily), the state house is virtually dominated by Democrats who love to tax, spend and regulate. There’s no reforming the state. Its a lost cause.

This flies in the face of the huge ad campaign for N.Y. State saying tax rates are the lowest in decades. How many companies fall for this “low ball for now” strategy?

Governor Andrew Cuomo's decision to not allow fracking has essentially doomed New York state to be just about completely dependent on Wall Street. If there is another stock market crash, the state could go into serious financial straits in a literal blink of an eye.

I don’t even know what the Safe Act is. And recycling is not high on my list. I no longer work in in Manhattan and and the place I work at on SI is very conservative and Incredibly non-pc. To say the least. guns are illegal but multiple neighbors own businesses so they have guns. And then there are the mobsters and God knows what they have in the house. Actually if I didn’t read everything I would think the world was in pretty good shape. I don’t wear my seatbelt and I know it’s bad but if I I want to take that chance is my business. I got a ticket one time from some fat black cop. Other than that things are good here.

most blacks that make it onto the force out here usually end up doing under cover in the projects and the bad neighborhoods. That’s a tough job.

NYS needs to get rid of some of its rules, regulations and laws.
I got a $150 fine last year because the dandelions in my lawn were over 12” (the rest of the grass was 2” to 3” and it had rained all week.)
I was fined $125 because my wife maintained a bird feeder.
3 hour wait for police to respond to a burglary at my daughter’s house.
I was fined $100 for doing 32mph in a 30mph zone.
And, then there’s the freaking SAFE Act which makes us all unsafe.

I left Texas for a career move, moved to Maryland. I left Maryland to move to WV. Best move ever, fairly low taxes and nobody to mess with your firearms rights. Oh and I refuse to go anywhere near New Jersey, New York, Conecticut, Massachusetts or any other state where repression is rampant. They don't need my money. Too many other places to vacation.
