Donald Trump Hands Kellyanne Conway, Stephen Bannon New Roles in Campaign
NBC News ^ | 8/17/2016 | Ali Vitali

NEW YORK — Donald Trump is shaking up his campaign's leadership amid flagging poll numbers, NBC News has learned.

Kellyanne Conway — already a senior adviser to the campaign — told NBC News she has been promoted to the role of campaign manager. She confirmed that Paul Manafort will stay on as campaign chair but said Stephen Bannon, the co-founder of conservative Breitbart News, will come on board as campaign CEO.

The moves were first reported by The Wall Street Journal and mark yet another round of internal shakeups for a campaign that seems to be struggling to find consistent footing.

I want to win," Trump told the newspaper. "That's why I'm bringing on fantastic people who know how to win and love to win."

The Trump campaign parted ways with controversial campaign manager Corey Lewandowski after the primaries ended, citing a new phase of the campaign.

Manafort had been unofficially filling the role of campaign manager after Lewandowski's departure, but himself has been the subject of controversy amid questions over his ties to ousted Ukrainian Prime Minister Victor Yanukovich.

Trump has been trailing in polls to rival Hillary Clinton, with some Republicans publicly pressuring the Republican National Committee to abandon Trump's bid and instead focus on down ballot races.

The latest NBC News / SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll showed Clinton leading Trump by 9 points, 50 percent to 41 percent.

I don’t see it that way; the media ALWAYS finds another story to talk about regarding the Republican. Always.

Trump had a woman who had cancer praise him publicly. An unscripted, beautiful moment at one of his town halls. (This was in the primary.) COMPLETELY ignored by the media on an otherwise hum drum day.

John Kasich, who got a hug from some crybaby, got wall to wall coverage.

I know Rush is saying something different....but I think he is wrong. The “news” always finds something different to discuss when a Republican hits a home run.

Here in Florida, Rick Scott does a great job—and the media in Florida REGULARLY ignores his successes...but if nine people show up somewhere to protest him, they get attention.

His show is on satellite radio 6-9 am. VERY good show. The show only started in Nov ‘15 and it is a hit already. Bannon is a Navy man, and I take it “wingman” has something to do with the Navy. Many of the callers will start their conversation with “Permission to come on board, Sir”. Bannon always says “Permission granted”. His show is refreshing to me. He uses a teaching method he learned at Harvard. However, sometimes he gets tiresome when using phrases. I listen to his show every day and will miss him. But glad he will be helping Trump!

Try Dept of State pressers ...the same dissembling, prevarication and distortion w/o the vindictiveness of CNN.

...and, yeah, that lack of quotes in your first post had me worried briefly; especially since you did have the quotes around the first sentence ...but then I knew your posting history; so... :^)

This article is not very informative, it’s mostly full of anti-Trump language - just another biased media report.

Cuomo’s concern for Trump’s success is noted and filed in the round cabinet.

The thing about Trump (and all truly great businessmen) is that he is a master of delegation and recognising the individual talents that people have.

Lewandowski was the man to get him through the primaries, Manafort the convention and Kelly and Stephen the two for the General.

Each stage requires a different approach and a different skillset to navigate successfully. Why does it not surprise me that a man with a business mindset gets this whilst our politicians are clueless.

Alex Marlow does a great job in Steve’s place. i agree some of Bannon’s phrases get tiresome and overused. Glad he can bring his energy to the Trump camp.

Really? Brilliant? Fantastic? Bannon? You know a completely different Bannon than I do. Now, Kellyann is a professional and really good at what she does. She is also respected by those in the industry. Bannon?

Cuomo is right about that. Bannon will certainly not encourage Trump to be presidential. Or honest.

That is exactly where bannon will lead trump. into the gutter. I know many, most will not agree with me. we shall just have to wait. Kellyanne will certainly take trump into an entirely different direction than bannon will.

The news all day has been about the campaign staff changes. Not a mention about the incredible speech last night. It’s like the speech never happened.

If they had just waited one day to announce the staff changes, all the media would have had to talk about was the speech and maybe the intel briefing this afternoon.

They made a mistake. Period. They wasted a great speech.

And I haven’t listened to Rush for about 15 years, so I don’t know what that comment was all about.

This is a good sign all the way around.

Sure, Conway is an expert in female consumer research and influencing. She's know how to attract female voters.

And Bannon is a media guru, editor, and publisher extraordinaire. This is a move to bring-on deep-bench communicators and media savvy talent.

Don't you love how Trump is so unpredictable and pulls in people as needed to get the job done?

i’m just telling you, it doesn’t matter. not a bit. the media will always always always find another story to report that ignores anything positive about Trump.

Consider the big news that Trump has been gaining in recent polls....have you heard anything on that? Nope. All you hear is the echo chamber of “Trump continues to trail....”

the media has already picked sides and will not budge. this is like their war on Newt. Or Reagan. Nothing positive will be reported, regardless of the content.

I think Kellyanne holds her own very well, but I still miss Barbara Olson who was killed on 9/11/2001 when her plane was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon.

Kellyanne will be a major asset to Mr Trump!
