Controversial South Africa runner gives her gold medal to her adoring wife to look after as she is mobbed on return from Rio Controversial runner Caster Semenya arrived home to South Africa today after her predictably dominant victory in the women’s 800-metre race at Rio 2016. The athlete handed her gold medal to her wife Violet Raseboya after arriving at Johannesburg Airport following the row over her involvement in the Olympics. Semenya, 25, who once had to undergo humiliating gender testing to prove she was female, took gold and set a new national record of one minute 55 seconds.

Johannesburg Airport was packed with fans, family and friends for the return of the athletes, but the biggest cheer and loudest singing was reserved for Semenya. Supporters watch the South African team's arrival home on their return from the Rio Olympics Making her way through: Critics agree the way she has Semenya thanked fans who chanted her name - but, asked what she wanted to say to her critics, she answered in her deep voice: 'I do not have the time for them.' She added: 'It's great to be here and receive such a welcome. I will always do my best. I hope that in four years' time there will be even more people to fill the airport.'

Semenya's ‘intersex’ condition of hyperandrogenism gives her testosterone levels that are three times those usually found in women and approaching those of a man. She was once forced to take medicine to suppress her testosterone amid claims she had an unfair advantage, but the rules have since been challenged. This means she can now run without the medication, and Britain’s Lynsey Sharp admitted yesterday that it was ‘difficult’ to race against Semenya.

This article says that 'due to a chromosomal abnormality, Semenya has testes, but no womb or ovaries'. Could the chromosomal abnormality be an XY?? It also shows 'her' giving 'her' medal to 'her' wife. Come on! Fess up! This is really a guy who has been using the PC world to compete where he can win, against women.

Feminists are undoubtedly ambivalent about this.

On the one hand they love the fact that PC freakdom wins the day.

On the other they realize that if this extends to its logical conclusion, women’s sports are doomed.

I read that the testes are inside her body, so not externally visible. She was raised as a female, because that’s what a look at her parts would make you think she was, but she’s something different.

I had to say that watching the event I really couldn’t believe that it was happening. It was obviously not a fair competition.

The condition Semenya has been diagnosed with, hyperandrogenism, by definition affects only chromosomal females (XX). It is androgen insensitivity syndrome that affects chromosomal males. Semenya is chromosomally female, but her body creates an abundance of testosterone (which both male and female have). In the past such women were required to take hormone blockers to lower their natural testosterone levels.
