AUSTIN, TX (KXAN) — Donald Trump’s campaign stop in Austin will come with a big price tag.
Austin police officers along with Travis County Sheriff’s Deputies helped direct traffic and provided security.
Travis County’s motorcycle unit escorted Trump from one location to the next.
As far as how many APD officers were used, a spokesperson says that information can’t be released just yet, because of safety concerns given how long Trump was in town.
Republican Texas Congressman Lamar Smith says security during these campaign stops is vital.
“We want to protect them, we want to make sure their lives aren’t in danger, we want to make sure that there’s no threats of any violence and whoever the presidential candidate is Republican or Democrat law enforcement officials I think are perfectly willing to do their jobs,” said Rep. Smith.
Some cities around the country have been left with big bills following Trump’s campaign stops.
According to the Wall Street Journal, 15 events in March cost more than $300,000 to secure and manage.
That’s an average of $20,000 for each event. The biggest bill was for Trump’s rally in Tucson, Arizona.
According to the police department, it cost more than $80,000 for 180 officers to work more than 1,200 man hours.
Cities aren’t typically reimbursed by presidential campaigns for hosting events and the federal government has no obligation to pick up the tab.
KXAN has learned that Trump is taking care of the bill over at the Travis County Expo Center.
According to Randle Jackson, Exposition Center Division Manager, “Rental of the Travis County Exposition Center was paid for, in full, by Trump for President, Inc. The contract sum for the entire facility, which included all of the grounds, was $19,650.00.”

So how do you feel about it when The Half-Breed comes to town? Or you have a sporting event?
I am certain we will never hear about the cost to protect Hillary at the same venues.
Why is this news? How is this different from any other campaign?
Has the Austin media ever complained about costs when Obama has visited?

Not a peep as to how much $$$$$ the city of Austin cheerfully spent on security when Obama has come to town (multiple times).
Wonder why campaigns don’t remimburse. I understand that the caucus events in Iowa are supposed to be .

I don’t think the city has to pay this. Certain Federal elections costs are passed on up right?
Liberals are sooooo hypocritical, they only raise this kind of issue against Republican candidates. Ofc for Obozo or Shrillary there could not even be a discussion about security costs or travel costs, just pay the bills!
