Searching in news is not.

Bing news is even fewer hits

Hillary doesn't know what alt-right means either, which is the funny part and why she's getting thoroughly thrashed on the topic. Nothing funnier than an establishment politician who wants to look (1) young and (2) trendy. Think of Yeb! attending a Phish concert in a disco suit. That kind of funny.

FR was alt-right before alt-right was cool, but it isn't now; it isn't so much the site that has changed as that the term now subsumes demographics that didn't exist in 1997. Some of its inhabitants weren't born yet.

I'm on (tediously frequent) record as denying that "right" and "left" have any accurate meaning in American politics, so "alt-right" doesn't bother me all that much. Calling a dog's tail a leg doesn't make it one. These are silly people throwing around words they don't understand and it isn't my function to make them less silly because they aren't listening anyway. Just my $0.02.

....”it's mostly in the sort of social media and alt-forums that most FReepers have no idea even exist, which is why there is this sudden “discovery” of the term, which has apparently taken a bunch of people by surprise.”....

I disagree....Alt-Right is not known even to many of those on social media, except for the Hillary left. It's well known she has hoards of twitter and face-book “armies” basically students and deadbeats. Their soul purpose is introducing whatever the latest jargon Hillary wants to spread in order to divert from her obvious failures and not address the real issues she's responsible for. It's a manufactured diversion...and that's all it is.

...”Too much infighting here....Hillary’s winning on this thread.”....

Yep...some took the bait and are running with it.

It’s a diversion Hillary is using, don’t take her bait.

Um...no.

Again, it’s been around for years. It only *seems* new to you because you didn’t know about it. Kind of like how people “discovered” America when it was here all along.

Searching in news is not.

So if it's not "news," nothing is happening with it?

I know you're smarter than that.

You missed the point. When it hits news, it means it’s in the mainstream....which his the point. It’s new.

The great error of the Ted Cruz-style constertooshunal conservatives has been an overly active trust in the present political system...

You'd think they'd have gotten a clue when everything the pro-life movement did that was marginally effective was made illegal.

No, the point is the entire thing has grown up under the “mainstream’s” radar. Their platform isn’t “news,” it’s youtube, et al.

Nope. The point I’m arguing is the earlier point that I made.

This is new.

Yeah, or when GWB and other high-ranking officials in his administration mocked Evangelical Christianity and basically deplatformed the pro forma Christian conservatives he had to include in his cabinet so as to keep up appearances.

"what would you have done differently"

Why don't you ask a difficult question?

This is my view; the TeaParty has been an unmitigated success, even though not as quickly as we would have liked.

Why is this? Because we represent independent individuals who are cognizant of the manipulation being spoonfed to the masses. The powers arrayed against us are awesome and frightening. In order to successfully confront them we must be like all other insurgent groups and fight a guerilla campaign. They can't smash us until they can name us and label us, or sick the IRS on us; hence my aversion to labels.

Trump is the manifestation of what the TP is about in that he is, apparently, not associated w/ the power structure that controls so many things. That's why every power structure in the country and the world is rabidly opposed to him. Clearly they recognize him as a threat which is one of the reasons so many support him.

I think that historic forces rather than individual personalities are at play and so it's a matter of holding our ground until those forces recede. BTW, God save us from the "giant" that bends world history to his will; that never works out well.

Finally, I think that FreeReublic is a force for good that has been influential several times in the past and can continue to so.

They've elected many actual conservatives to congress, even though some have turned. The electoral victories of 2010 and 2014 are TP victories.

They gave Boehner the boot even though he was replaced by the pliable ryno.

Small victories no doubt but these came after the TP had been declared dead several times. The difficulty heretofore has been finding a national candidate that is not tarred w/ the brush of "politician". How to win a political campaign w/o a politician?

I consider their success the fact that they/we are still relevant and that we scare "them' so much.

We are "prickly and hard to eradicate" one of my favorite lines from a favorite movie.
