San Francisco 49ers Issue Statement After Colin Kaepernick Sits Through National Anthem

SANTA CLARA — Colin Kaepernick didn’t do much to warrant headlines with his performance on the field Friday, but he’s certainly in for his fair share of scrutiny after he sat through the national anthem before his preseason debut against the Packers.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com was first to report Kaepernick didn’t stand for the national anthem and got the 49ers to issue a statement on the matter. The statement from the 49ers to PFT:

“The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens. In respecting such American principles as freedom of religion and freedom of expression, we recognize the right of an individual to choose to participate, or not, in our celebration of the national anthem.”

Kaepernick has used his social media profiles to showcase his political beliefs but has never before made a statement of this magnitude. It will be interesting to see how the 49ers and/or Kaepernick address this further.

40 whiners management - Total cowards.

Kopernick is a dirt bag. Who the hell does he thinks comes to his games and who does he think protects him in stadiums across the US? What a jerk.

Only if he had been sitting down for the ‘gay national anthem’.

If this had been something like the ‘LGBT National Anthem’ or the ‘Harvey Milk Anthem’ he sat down for they would have issued a completely different statement and probably fired him.

A bit tool late for everyone...toothpaste is out of the tube...keep sitting on the bench...will probably be a large part of whatever career he has left.

I’ve hated the Niners since I became a Cowboys fan. No love lost here.

A guy makes millions of dollars playing a damn game then complains about how oppressed he is. Astonishing.

The guy just ruined his career.

Kaepernick already ruined his career over the last two seasons of bad play. He is currently unable to beat out Blaine Gabbert of all people for the starting job with the 49ers. Barring a miraculous turnaround - which will be tough to achieve sitting on the bench - his days in uniform are numbered.

Is Kaepernick trying to get cut? Sure seems like it.

I've got more than a few words for this guy.  Since it would be 100% redacted, I'll spare folks.

Don’t know. I don’t think any team should want him.
What I am saying is that the franchise may be
trying to down play his boorish behavior by pretending
that his antics regarding the National Anthem do not
bother management. If they indicate that Kaepernick is
a big problem for the front office then his marketability
may be damaged. My question is why in hell would a one
time starter who is competing for a starting job want
to bring negative attention to himself unless he is nuts
like Johnny Manziel or he is angling for some other
advantage?

Well I do think he is sincere in his foolish beliefs, he has been imbibing BLM racist nonsense plus Islamism with his gf, and he just feels compelled to show off his beliefs now. I doubt he’s thinking at all in terms of his football future, or else he would just stand for the anthem along with everyone else.

Unless someone’s already said it, I think that Kaepernick will end up as the Niners’ third string QB regardless of whether he stands for the national anthem or not.

He might be one season away from being a former NFL athlete.

Next time he does that, I hope his teammates are jocular enough to pour ice water over his head.
