The National Football League's 97th season may get off to a rocky start if the entire Seattle Seahawks team follows through on a threat to sit during the national anthem on Sunday, the 15-year anniversary of the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks.

Seahawks cornerback Jeremy Lane has led the charge, but on Wednesday receiver Doug Baldwin said he may join his defensive teammate on the bench at the start of the game against the Miami Dolphins.

Okay, I think I'm officially done with the NFL and football. I am down to NHL (Go Caps) and Indy Car racing. I'll spend time becoming a better student of the latter.

I’m not sure if this is a good idea considering this coming Sunday is the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks—even in Seattle.

Not according to Pete Carrol

One FReeper mentioned that this is all about getting rid of the National Anthem and military from the NFL. This is what the Left does. I bet you're going to hear sports commentators say that the National Anthem is a distraction and shouldn't be played.

And sadly most Conservatives will still tune in every Sunday

Nobody knows what they’re going to do yet, all we know is that whatever it is they are doing it together. Let’s wait and see before we assume the worst.

Is this a serious post? If those white men are influenced at all by their white coach, who is a 9/11 truther, it would not surprise me at all if they sit.

marshal gets dumped by sponsor, has large Military customer base

I say the entire stadium should be empty of every Patriotic AMERICAN! BE SURE YOUR FLAGS FLY SUNDAY!

We are career Ret. Navy both flags will be up Sunday starting at 8 am standard Flag raising time! I’d have them in the ground and lighted if I could get hubby to do it and fly them 24/7. Being 77 he’s not able to put the poles in.

Do you really believe that

I'm going to give the Seahawks the benefit of the doubt. I can't imagine that Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson would allow the team to sit or kneel in unity against the flag/our country. The "12's" are a strong force and something like that would really p*ss us off.

I'm hoping they have come up with a better plan that everyone can accept, to eliminate the controversial sit or kneel during the anthem.

Are you a fan? Unfortunately, sounds like you’ve lost your team to me. This will be a disgrace.

I’ve hated the $hitbirds for quite a while now ... this just puts the icing on the cake. Even Mrs Clamper who is an rabid stinking 49’ers fan is talking boycott

Exactly!

I’m so sick of hearing that these professional athletes have a ‘right’ to protest on the job.

If I did that I’d be fired quickly.

Fine - you don’t want to participate in the national anthem? Stay in the locker room until it’s over. You’re not being paid to protest and you’re not owed a stage to do so. Do that on your own time, like everyone else.

Let’s hope the owner has the courage to fire everyone who sits.

It would never happen in Seattle, but maybe somewhere in a city with guts - after the anthem, the whole crowd stands up and walks out. Or even better, no one shows up for the game. Yeah, they already have your money, but the spectical would send a strong message for the NFL's future.

Just a side note, a commentator said that Referees call penalties differently for Cam Newton because he’s black. I guess he’s getting dissed.
