Ask Tim Tebow. Even though he never said anything of the sort, he was, and is still, vilified by the sports press.
I agree.
It’s just a game.
I never watch NFL anymore anyway. Too bloated with talentless layers who whine. Now, if any OSU players take a knee today.....well, it will be hard to give up my Buckeyes. But someone has to take a stand FOR our country. I really doubt Meyer would let anyone take a knee, but we will see.
If nothing else, Tim Tebow is evidence that the NFL can exert pressure behind the scenes. His “arm” was blackballed. :>)
The NFL is simply the “Bread & Circuses” of the Post-Modern Era.
When the “circus” begins to disrespect the source of the “bread,” the society that pays for it all is not long for this world.
For all that our military has done for us while fighting under that flag, the very least we can do is to quit watching and supporting sports teams that tolerate such disrespect of the flag.
When you are in a team uniform, then every action you take represents the team. So if any player in uniform shows such contempt for our flag and our country, then if they are not benched or fired, then their actions represent the whole team.
The NFL apparently has no problem with these clowns. I believe every patriotic American has a patriotic duty to turn their backs on the NFL and any organization that permits this to happen on their watch.
I’ll give any coach/league a chance to deal with something. The NFL has had time to deal with this.
Meyer might have a kid sit today, but that same kid might find himself sitting the bench for a while.
I’ll accept that.
You do not get it... at all. The problem is not the players... it is the NFL itself and the teams. They pay the players 100s of millions of dollars. The entire spectacle is entertainment including the players pretending to be patriotic sportsmen. The rest of the time these spoiled idiots can do and say what they want, but on game day the teams own the players.
If the teams don't control their players on game day; it is because they are pandering to a segment of the audience and believe the rest of us won't do anything about it. And in Seattle which is nearest to where my family lives, the whole team is reportedly scheming to take some type of despicable action. that is a heck of a lot more than "1%"! Strong signals need to be sent. We can't let these leaches on society get away with this crap.
I’ve conducted my share of memorial services for soldiers who have died serving their country.
Not once did anyone of any race, creed, or background ever even hint or joke about sitting on the national anthem.
They all had respecting their fallen comrade foremost on their minds.
haven’t watched a game since they put that stupid arrow on the field with the down count
If the players aren’t loyal to their country, how can we be loyal to a team? Anyway, I don’t watch much NFL, so I won’t miss it. But if they don’t stop putting NFL propaganda on the beer cans, I’ll stop drinking their brands.
This will only work if we see a vast sea of empty seats in the stadiums. I hope so.
Hard to take any of this "gay pride" perversion but, of course, the perversion starts in the minds of those at the top. of government.
Not only do we need Trump but we also need a thorough cleaning and scouring of ALL the perverts and pervert supporters in government.
it would then be so easy for them politely to stay in the clubhouse for the duration of the anthem.
Sorry, I can’t agree with this part.
If the entire team were to stay in the clubhouse, would that not be just as disrespectful?
The whole problem here is that these unpatriotic PUKES want to exercise their rights on OUR airwaves, which WE are paying for, without consequences.
They want to take advantage of the megaphone we have given them, and that we are paying for, to “express themselves” without having to accept the responsibility for their actions.
On a side note. Not to make this a racist issue, but a large percentage of players are Black.
As a culture thing, Blacks are all about “Respect”. They go on about not wanting to be “disrespected”.
Where is their (those that choose to sit) RESPECT for our flag/country? Isn’t it THEIR country too?
Go ahead and sit, I DARE YOU!
Support your local craft breweries!
I agree.
Yeah, I hear you and get what you’re saying. In this country in your face, outrageous behavior seems to sell. lol
Playing the game and displaying highly developed skills is no longer enough to satisfy many viewers. They actually want flamboyance, crudity and controversy. And a little gratuitous violence helps as well.
In Rome the entertainment spectacles for the masses became increasingly bizarre. I guess we’re no different, which makes you wonder where we’re heading.
Never understand why adults wear the jerseys and worship these men children.
I would rather the entire team stay in the clubhouse.
It is a minimum effort to avoid disrespecting others.
If an entire team stayed in the clubhouse, I’d sure wonder what was going on with their recruiting department.
