Hillary Clinton sees one-quarter of the country as a "basket of deplorables."
She made the comment about "half" of Donald Trump's supporters during a fundraising speech to elite New York City donors Friday night.
Today, Trump's running mate, Gov. Mike Pence, struck back.
"Hillary Clinton's low opinion of the people who support this campaign should be denounced in the strongest possible terms," Pence said.
"The truth of the matter is the people who support Donald Trump's campaign are hardworking Americans.
"Farmers, coal miners, teachers, veterans, members of our law enforcement community, members of every class of this country who know we can make America great again," he said.

What is deplorable is a candidate who mocks people who have lost hope, lost jobs, lost everything.
With food stamp participation remaining at highs, child poverty and hunger, homelessness at deplorable levels, and the continued bleed of jobs like Dell’s 3000 tech workers (to be replaced with H1Bs - the company has already requested visas for thousands,) or Caterpillar’s thousands dumped on the streets, Clinton can blithely pander to the mega-rich and the 1% who own her.
To vote for this woman is to vote for a country run by those whose view of anybody-but-them and the NIMBYs who pander to them as nothing more than smears of slime contaminating their viewshed.
Why can’t all be more like Black Lives Matter (racists and Communists), she likes them! /s
