Scholars of pre-Columbian history have been trying to decipher something called the Grolier Codex ever since it was discovered by looters in a cave in Chiapas, Mexico back in the '60s.

Hello MSN,

Will you tell me what the Codex says about Trump ?

I’m sure you want to.

Cool. Too bad the Spaniards burned the rest.

Or not, the crazy left would certainly try to emulate some of the Mayan rituals.

You have to understand. The Spanish were sickened by what they found. The Spanish arriving in their cities was roughly equivalent of the Allied armies liberating the Nazi death camps.

They only saw it needed to be eradicated. And they were correct.

It was the human sacrifices of the children and canablism that really to them.

I understand why the Spanish did it, and I know the Aztecs were stone-age, cannibalistic, war-mongering slavers, but I still am curious about what they wrote about.

Groliers? How did it get that name? Back in the 60s, a company called Groliers published encyclopedias and such.

but I still am curious about what they wrote about.

Then you will have to read some other book because this one was written by the Maya not the Aztecs.

Two different groups of people.

As the other freeper pointed out these are two different groups of people.

The Mayan civilization of city states was about 800 years ago and died out a couple hundred years before the Aztecs moved into central Mexico. Mayans had human sacrifice but nobody did it to the scale of the Aztecs.

What actual Aztec codecs still survive are mostly about accounting. Conquered people had to pay tribute to the empire and the Aztecs kept meticulous records of it.

BTW the movie Apocalypto (brilliant though bloody) is not a documentary. It blends the Aztecs and Mayans together for dramatic effect. I thought that movie was about Christianity anyway but that’s a different story.

You omitted their multiple really scary, bestial, revolting, but ornate "gods", otherwise, you pretty well nailed the highlights.

No no no.

The Spanish were evil. The poor, innocent mass human sacrificers were the good guys.

Didn’t you go to school?

Oh, and I think I hit the report button on accident when I meant to reply. If anything comes of that, sing out. I’ll fess up to my stupid misclick.
