Take that $150 and buy some laying hens and start a garden.

Sounds as if they're to the point that laying hens and seed corn would be stolen and eaten. So, probably wouldn't work unless you were way, way out in the country and had the means to defend it.

Now, we can hope that Shrillary lays an egg.

“It’s what statists ALWAYS do when their policies fail (as they always do). “

The other point they alway make when their failure is complete. “It would have worked, we just didn’t do it right or we had incompetent people trying to implement it! It is NEVER the FAULT of the Marxist/ Socialist Philosophy!”

In Venezuela, I am sure that if your neighbor saw your chicken in your yard, it would probably be gone that very night.
Hunger doesn't make sense, much less common sense.
When you have hunger in your family, you don't think logically about whether it produces eggs (high protein), you just see an immediate need to cure to the family hunger.
If hungry enough, and even the family pet isn't safe.

Of course. I have been deathly thirsty at times in my life, more than that hungry.

It is an AWFUL feeling but i’m sure hunger is at the same level.

The thirst came from 2 hour football workouts without water a million years ago when i was a kid.

Venezuela..what a shame..didn’t have to be.

Socialism is the definition of insanity. Doing the same thig over and over and expecting a different result.

I’ve had to do some things 5 or 6 times to learn that!!!

Socialism has NEVER EVER worked, unless you count the small Kibbutz, i think they were called?

Sooo...
If a dozen eggs are going for $150, why aren’t there convoys of trucks and freighters full of eggs headed for Venezuela? The “invisible hand” is a pretty good provider.
Right - the Venezuelan government would rob any supplier of his goods and profits and Venezuelan money is probably worthless.

Yeah , the Israeli Kibbutz system worked because everybody worked for ' the common good', and you were expected to work hard.
Bernie Sanders worked on an Israeli kibbutz briefly, but since he primarily wanted to discuss Communism rather than work, they asked him to leave.
That's the difference between Israeli kibbutz an an American kibbutz (A/K/A: Federal Government); the Israeli's knew enough to throw him out.

The next night, the neighborhood would have one less chicken thief and my bbq grill would be cranked up. However, from the looks of the hefty folks in line, it’s not come to that, yet. But it will be if they don’t wake up and start providing food for themselves instead of relying on the grocery truck.

You and I are of an age whereby we know better
Most kids from the inner-city think that milk comes from a plastic bottle
Kids have no idea of cows, pasture, manure, veterinarians , sterilization and pasteurizing milk, and transporting to a co-operative for bottling.
Thank God I live in the country side with gardens, grains , weeds and farmers markets.

It must be SO HARD to find a group where no one covets are wants more than their neighbor and no one is really lazy, but i guess they get kicked out.

Enjoying family, having enough, good friends, it’s not such a horrible idea in Theory.

I guess on a small scale it could work.

On a large scale you can’t see the thieves and murderers conniving!!

Yes and no. The term “socialism” comes from “society" - meaning, not society at large but rather the small society of like-minded, committed and dedicated people in which socialism actually works. In that context “society” is really the wrong word, because such a “society” functions as a family unit. The Israeli kibbutz is or was an example of such, but certainly not the first. The Shakers (you have heard of a “shaker chair”) was such a community, a Christian one - but it died out because procreation was not part of their agenda and, oddly enough, the supply of recruits from outside willing to join proved to be inadequate to enable them to continue. There were other such societies, less successful even than the Shakers, founded in America. It is a dream that dies hard.
That actually was the intended basis of the Plymouth colony, the foundation of Massachusetts. But, coreligionists notwithstanding, the Pilgrims proved to not fit the mold of the successful socialist society. They switched over to private property principles, and flourished instead of dying out.
If it didn’t work with the Pilgrims, it won’t work with any large society.

great post.

Yeah man, “greed is good”. I know it was the liberal horror phrase in Wall Street but there is some truth to it.

Wanting more pushes us forward. We are not meant to be static.

And yet a man i love VERY MUCH and who is tattooed on my arm along with father and another uncle, worked in a belt making factory for 45 years after WWII, (he was in the bulge) lived in a small rented apartment with wife and son, and was happy.

They enjoyed the boxing matches and eating out.

That’s not socialism though, is it? That’s just a life choice.

I thought I was better than him when i was 18 because i was making a lot of money in sales.

By the time he had died, 20 years later, I realized I wasn’t worthy to shine his boots.

I’ll never forget some city vegetarian on tv years ago getting all hyper over the horrors of “aborted chickens!”, more commonly known as eggs.
