It’s interesting to note that when 0bama was asked about the whole Clinton campaign revived “birther” issue, he said it was time to talk about important things, essentially throwing her under the bus.
Everyone with half a brain realizes that the revival of “birtherism” was another desperate attempt by the Clinton campaign and her media minions to save her failing campaign. Now, Clinton/media are all PO’d that Trump got the better of them. If they insist on keeping this non-issue alive, it will only hurt them.

Lies on top of lies. The press claims Trump called a press conference to discuss his birther thing., No, he had this event planned days in advance. He did not call this event to satisfy the press badgering.
The press claimed that if Trump said Obama was born in the US, that would end it. His campaign put out an official statement, and the press said the campaign statement didn't count, because Trump didn't sign it. So Trump signals that he will comment about it the next day. He did. He said the same thing the printed release said, in fewer words.
The issue is entirely a press creation. Trump never brought the irrelevancy of Obama's birthplace into the race. The press did. The press resurrected the subject because they believe it damages Trump.
The press has to do its "damage Trump" function, and Trump has set things up so it runs its course and burns out more quickly than it would have otherwise. It will burn out, because the issue now is "did the Democrats participate in birtherism, and do so to advance Hillary?"

The only thing funnier would be for him to tell the press he was going to do Harry Caray on national TV. In eagerness to broadcast him committing ritual Japanese suicide, they would be treated to an impression of the long time Cubs announcer. The press would then declare that he supported the Cubs only because Obama in a White Sox fan.
Any time a leftist generated pseudo controversy arises, Trump will use the opportunity to use the media to give him unfiltered air time as free campaign advertising. Then, the issue will be briefly addressed in passing or perhaps postponed for another time to game the media.
As a good businessman, he knows that if you want something, you have to give something.
