NFL Week 2 Overnights: Eagles/Bears Hits Week 2 Low on MNF("lowest ever for MNF in Week 2")

The Week 2 Eagles/Bears Monday Night Football game earned an 8.3 overnight rating on ESPN, down 11% from Jets/Colts last year (9.3), down 16% from Eagles/Colts in 2014 (9.9), and the lowest ever for MNF in Week 2 of the season. The previous low was an 8.5 for Washington/Philadelphia in 2007.

The Eagles’ win, which peaked at a 10.1 from 9:30-9:45 PM ET, was the ninth of the first 13 NFL telecast windows this season to hit a multi-year low in the overnights. That includes all three MNF telecasts.

ESPN’s telecast drew a 16.2 rating in Philadelphia and an 11.2 in Chicago. Coverage was simulcast on local independent affiliates in both markets, earning a 13.4 on WPHL in Philadelphia and a 10.9 on WCIU in Chicago. New Orleans was the top neutral market with a 12.9, with Norfolk (12.0) and Denver (11.3) rounding out the top five.

I would not want to oppress them by watching.

Let them get real jobs.

Since I dumped cable (saving an estimated $22,500 over 15 years) I only watch broadcasted games.

Good. More unintended consequences for proggies.

Many good things to actually DO besides sitting and watching LEDs flickering while stuffing carbs in our gut.

The fans are just tuning out the NFL. Kaepernick, Goodell, et. al., are destroying the brand. I will watch soccer before I watch the NFL until K and G are gone.

I would rather watch NFL than any political debate. And I’m not a fan of the NFL. The scary thing is the polling actually changes after a debate. Who are these people that can be swayed one way or the other at this point in the process?

Freegards

I slogged through the first half before falling asleep.

The Bears are a bad team. I would not expect any game in which they are featured will have very good ratings.

On the plus side, only three idiots on the Eagles staged anthem protests (while 70,000 got in their faces).

NFL usually scores well against debates. Debates suck, they’re infotainment that lack both information and entertainment.

Have you watched a debate with Trump in it? Come on, when Megyn Kelly tried to flay him with accusations that he was a super meanie to women on twitter his response "Only Rosie O'Donnell" was comedy gold. Were you not entertained?

Nope. Not even a little. To call these things debates is an insult to anybody that ever took debate class. They’re just pathetic snark fests.

Well, Mr. Goodell, the moneymaker that is the NFL is now experiencing an 8 to 14 percent decline in TV ratings (the main source of revenue of the league) because you were unwilling to quash those national anthem protests. What those four Philadelphia Eagles did last night with their Black Power gesture will guarantee that the ratings will stay down, and in fact could drive it even lower to 15 to 20 percent down compared to last season.

If Donald Trump wins the Presidency, you might as well be done as NFL Commissioner, because you would be considered "out of touch" with the sentiment of the fans of the league who pay for the gate receipts and watch the games on TV.

I know it’s getting about time to boycott all TV sports. The ACC is boycotting NC, as are other sports entities. ESPN spends most of its time defending Kapernick and his ilk. Sports can’t be about sports anymore. Players have to come out with BLM salutes and any type of antiamerican, antigod protest they can think of . I so miss the days of Landry and Staubach!

“On the plus side, only three idiots on the Eagles staged anthem protests”

Roger Goodell, the High Priest of the NFL, publicly endorsed such actions.

Boycott the NFL.

I went without TV for over 4 years when I was stationed in Germany. I was too far from the base to pick up the signal. I survived without it. I may not “cut the cord”, but my viewing is down.
