Debating Hillary
American Thinker ^ | September 21, 2016 | G. Murphy Donovan

“Time spent arguing is, oddly enough, almost never wasted.” - Christopher Hitchens

The impending presidential debates are likely to be the best attended in the history of American politics. The viewing and listening audience will set a standard for political discussions past and future. At this point, the draw is Donald Trump. Love him or hate him, Trump is a candidate who packs a house and elevates the ratings.

Whether or not the Trump “draw” translates into votes remains to be seen. Ironically, Trump’s negatives may be the new positive. Those so-called “undecideds,” might be a closet demographic, folks who do not support Trump publicly, but on Election Day will push the button for change anyway.

At this point in the campaign, both candidates represent real choice. Hillary is the establishment, the ancien regime, more of the same if you will. Trump is the parvenu, the rhetorical bomb thrower. The Donald represents change, anxiety, and uncertainty too.

Here Trump has a decided advantage. Call it the enthusiasm gap. Emotion and energy are the important components of any political campaign. Specific issues are, for the most part, window dressing. Most candidates see politics as the art of saying and playing, not doing.

Issues are merely emotional outreach, the hot buttons of cynical voter manipulation. If you can talk-the-talk well enough, you might never have to walk-the-walk.

I just saw something on Facebook about her bowing out of the debate on Monday. I forget the name of the source it came from (some news outlet) and I was not sure if it was one of those phony news sites.

"Well, this Monday’s MNF is going to take a ratings plunge!"

Let it plunge. MNF is so 20th century.
It's long since lost it's currency.

She will be loaded up with Apomorphine to hide the Parkinson’s and Xanax to hide the jitters. She’ll be a robot.

Similar thought, Clinton’s telling what a mess is being left, and Obama is not confident in his legacy.

What I don’t get is how someone can be swayed by debates at this point. But the polls supposedly show at least temporary swings in how likely voters plan to vote after one of these things. I have yet to meet anyone in life that can express their own political beliefs in a rational way willing to switch candidates because of debate technique or how talking heads think a debate went or whatever. Say the candidate that most closely matches your political beliefs is a tongue tied lummox in a debate setting, what are you going to not vote for that person over that? I don’t get it.

Debating Hillary may very likely become a sequel to Waiting for Godot.

"Ridiculed a disabled reporter" will be in the debate

A fake meme is best because it can neither be answered or disproved.
Hillary and the media are really counting on scoring with this one.

“What I don’t get is how someone can be swayed by debates at this point.”

There are a large number of people that can’t stand Clinton, but know nothing about “Trump the politician”. The debate is a perfect platform for Trump to basically say “Look, I am not the maniac that they try and sell on the campaign trail. I’m a qualified executive and I mean business should I be elected POTUS.”

If he gets that message across, she’s all but done. They made the mistake of defining Trump. Trump isn’t a pansy like Romney or a Democratic lapdog like McCain. He’ll fight back against that image they painted with dollar store watercolors and make them look like fools.

First thing Trump should say is, “I hope you are feeling well Mrs. Secretary.”

"I’m still not convinced the debates will take place."

She'll be there with bells on, count on it.

Between her and the Mods they intend to slay Trump. Every question, every rebuttal will be a shot to the head.

And it's likely he's one of very few men in the world that can stand up to it. Though I do not believe he'll win the debate on points, just surviving the obviously coordinated assault should be enough.

"Hillary cannot think on her feet."

That's fantasy. She's smart like the devil his own self.

She'll come to that debate intent on winning.

If you say so. I hope you are right. But really Trump could flick boogers at her and it wouldn’t make me change my vote to Hillary. Same thing if Trump had some sort of illness or completely falls on his face in a debate as far as technique or not knowing immediate policy details. Doesn’t mean he wouldn’t make a good leader, as much as the media prizes debate technique and speechifying as some sort of vital component to leadership.

Hillary did well in the recent Commander-in-chief Townhall. One can say all they want to excuse it, e.g. ear device, etc. Doesn't matter. She spoke her lies well. It doesn't matter what you or I think since we will not be voting for her anyway. What matters is whether those in the middle that decide elections can be fooled. I think many of them can be fooled. Hillary is a trained professional liar that should not be underestimated.

Trump really needs a KO in these debates to offset dem election fraud

I find it hard to watch debates. They angry up the blood. I don’t think I can sit through a debate if she’s involved. Her face and her voice make it nearly impossible. I guess I’ll just have to follow along here and pray for a Yuge Trump Win!
