Ervin explained in her Facebook post that on September 19, "while in uniform, I made the conscious decision to not stand for the Star Spangled Banner because I feel like a hypocrite, singing about 'land of the free' when, I know that only applies to some Americans." Ervin said in the post that she was punished by Navy officials and that the "equipment I need to do my Naval job" was taken away.

If the color of your skin rules your decision making capability, you cannot be part of the military team.

All or nothing babe.

I would point out that as a PO2 she has an incredible amount of freedom to do her job to the best of her ability and even to supervise others under her.

In the military if you wear your uniform and salute when required you can get away with an awful lot, actually.

Petty Officer 2nd class and she thinks not standing for the National Anthem is an option? How did she get through boot camp?

She might have learned it from "Mooch" "all this for a damn flag"

Why is she in the service if she can’t be patriotic? Oh, that’s right, some of these soldiers are only in it for the meal ticket and the pension.

She voluntarily joined a group that makes you much less free.

As an E5 she has an incredible amount of freedom and responsibility. A lot more than most of her civilian peers.

She was probably doing poorly in her tech training coursework and pulled this stunt to explain why she was flunking out. That’s usually the reason for these high profile episodes.

I am talking military vs civillian life. You give up many constitutional rights in the military.

The military is not civilian life.

To many of us "Oldtimers", the phrase "Your Heart May Belong to Mama but..., YOUR ASS BELONGS TO UNCLE SAM" may sound familiar! I guess it is too PC to emphasis such a phrase in today's "Military Occupations Jobs Program"?
