Despite harsh reviews, Trump resists new debate approach

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Unmoved by harsh debate reviews, a defiant Donald Trump showed no sign Wednesday of embracing any big changes before his second faceoff with Hillary Clinton, pressing ahead with a strategy focused on speaking directly to his white working-class loyalists across the Midwest.

Democrat Clinton, meanwhile, pushed to improve her standing among younger voters with the help of the president, Sen. Bernie Sanders and other key allies, 48 hours after her debate performance that seemed to spark badly needed enthusiasm.

Those closest to Trump insisted the Republican presidential nominee was satisfied with Monday night's debate, even as prominent voices within his own party called for more serious preparation next time following an opening confrontation marked by missed opportunities and missteps.

"Why would we change if we won the debate?" former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a key Trump ally and traveling partner this week, told The Associated Press. "Donald Trump is going to prepare for debates the way Donald Trump prepares for debates."

The next debate is 11 days away.

He seems to listen to his daughter, Ivanka. She might have the best chance of getting him to prepare more.

He cannot scare off women with a too hostile approach.

Sander's isn't going to help Hillary with the Millennial voters, he is a sell out.

She is trying to get her own base to vote for her, which is a disaster for a candidate.

MSM hits on him for winning the debate.

They will never ask Hillary if she would reconsider her debate prep after she clearly lost.

No bias here!

Trump had a look of calm amusement in the last few minutes of the debate.

It reminds me of a champion boxer reaching the end of the second round and having taken on the best their opponent had to offer : ‘Is that all you got, punk?’ Trump seemed to be saying.

The first debate was Trump probing, examining the enemy up close and personnel. He knows there is nothing to fear.

The Trump counter in the second debate is going to be some sight to behold

How do they know what he’s going to do in the next debate?

It also helped that DNC NBC anchor was giving a boost to Hillary. I saw Hillary’s campaign appearance today in NH. No life. No energy. There’s no enthusiasm for this woman. The vote fraud is going to have to be enormous this time around.

DJT better treat the next two debates as if they are political exorcism. We have 40-days to rid ourselves of this evil and when he didn’t defend himself against her racist, misogyny charges he let her off the ropes. He got terrible, terrible debate advice IMO.

On Fox News there was consensus that Trump’s big margin in on-line who-won-debate polls (typical result 80/20 Trump)was from Trump fans voting in large numbers (mostly Freepers?) and as often as possible.

They don't. They didn't know how he'd act and react in the first debate either. Political news is almost entirely misdirection, innuendo and speculation.

I do public speaking and debate for a living. One needs to prepare and rehearse short answers that convey the maximum information in the minimum number of words. To do this you need to anticipate what will be asked and have a response ready. Anyone who has ever argued a case in court knows this. Clinton knows this.

The “issues” that Trump will be confronted with are not mysterious - we all know what they are, and how he should respond. He needs to practice those responses.

That’s because he won. the checkers playing idiots want to see him insulting Hillary and being a fool. He is playing Chess. He wasn’t aiming his performance at us.

He was aiming it at people who want to feel safe.

His whole campaign is basically dad pulling into the driveway. Now he is showing them that being firm doesn’t mean unstable. Its very important to women and childish people.

I think so too - he's doing a three-debate rope-a-dope.

Did I say hostile?

Can u read post? I said tougher not hostile.

If you believe Trump missed some opportunities to counter punch,
then those are the type of issues I’m talking about counter punching
more effectively.
