I’ve never owned an automatic in the 40+ years of driving. If I lived in a big metro area that has frequent traffic jams, I would consider one for a daily driver..

Like flying with an auto-pilot. . .great for boring long stretches but rather have my hands on the stick during maneuvers, landing and take-off, as well as during emergencies.

Personally, I loath the idea of auto-drive cars. . .

Autonomous cars what a wonderful concept. A safety pitch to the rubes and more control or the bureaucrats.

The government will be able to:

Track your every movement

Only allow you to travel where they permit

Only allow you to travel when they permit

Use your vehicle as a mobile cell which delivers you to the jail when they want

The possibilities for government mischief are endless.

“they want all driverless vehicles as soon as possible is because that’s how they enforce their “Do Not Travel” list”

Yeas, good point!

Robo cars are a joke

Simply another thing to add to the cost of driving. Imagine the repair bills to keep all of these sensors working. The annual inspections to make sure your radar system and GPS are calibrated. If one of the sensors goes bad out of warranty you will be back to driving your robo car yourself. Like the ubiquitous check engine light the check sensor light will stay on and poor people will never get the stuff fixed.

Any bets on the first jammer frequency that someone throws at one of these cars to show their vulnerability?

Are powers that be going to raise the ridiculously low posted speed limits, speed limits that are primarily a revenue generating scheme?

Yeah, it’s hard to drink a beer, light a cigarette and row the gearbox in traffic.

I used to have fun in my VW bus. I could easily do the 3rd/4th gear shifting with my right foot.

Yeah, it’s hard to drink a beer, light a cigarette and row the gearbox in traffic.

And operate a CB radio..

My first Toyota pickup didn’t have a radio, or power steering. The second one did, and a cassette player. But both had the camper window in back, so you could throw empty beer cans back into the bed.

Very dangerous to have the empties rolling around the floor in front. They tend to get lodged under the brake pedal.
