I’m a self employed So Cal guy that now pays over $5000/year for a $5000 deductible policy. Prior to that I was self insured and payed cash for any care I needed. Guess I was one of the suckers they were looking for.

The overwhelming majority of our leaders are lawyers, not true grit tough as nails men. The Republic has been lost and there is no one to save it.

The only hope we have is a President Trump calling the out the citizens to defend the Constitution from the domestic enemies.

Sounds like your friend might qualify for this exemption. Some people I know buy temporary plans and file for this exemption. They end up paying about a third the cost.

“BTW, Bronze started with 5k annual deductable...next to 6k and last yr to 6.5k....meaning 1st $6,500 comes out of your wallet before ObamaCare pays anything...”

And something Obamacare did which screwed me royally is they coupled pharmacy with healthcare. When it was decoupled, my medication premium was separate from my medical. My medication is 400 a month, so until I hit my deductible of 6k, I pay the full 400 a month instead of 10 dollars.

What good is “health coverage” if you can’t see a doctor?

Investigate the various Christian and Ethical health aharing plans. They are far cheaper and much more straightforward and get you loose from the obamacare requirements. No “fines.” My daughter and her husband and 2 kids are doing that.

Medicale treatment is for the masses is of no concern to the government and the Democrats. “Coverage” is the important thing. Coverage gets way more bureaucrats hired and voting Democrat as well as more thoroughly implementing the Democrat totalitarian agenda. Subsidies for the “poor” again makes more Democrat voters by making the recipients of the subsidies zealous to vote for keeping and expanding the subsidies.

Except they can’t find doctors or hospitals that take Medi-Cal.

For 2017, my premium just went up 9% here in CA. I now pay $16,000 in premiums and my wife and I are 100% responsible for the first $5600 each of our medical bills. (We never get close to that because we eat right (sort of), don’t drink or smoke, and exercise.) We pay a lot for really crappy insurance.

“This wasn’t even a good way to do out and out welfare, which the Dems should confess was the real goal. “

My big disappointment with the GOP Congress is their failure to even attempt to make changes to O’care after their 40 show votes to end it.

We desperately need a national market for health insurance where economies of scale can be realized from the supplier side and the prospect of more customers will allow price competition. The state by state regulation of the industry, with a multiple federal bureaucracies overseeing the state regulators is the worst way to administer a system. Since the federal government already defines what the terms of bronze, silver, and gold policies must be nationally, why have state government bureaucrats involved at all? Dealing with 50 separate state government just drives up costs.

The GOP Congress should have passed a bill with some real market based reforms to the program. Perhaps even a voucher system for Medicare and Medicaid. There could have been a national debate on the issue. If the Dems blocked the reforms in Congress, or Obama had vetoed an actual reform bill, the Republicans could be hammering Democrats on the issue this year. Instead we are hearing virtually nothing about the collapsing healthcare system.

Of course the GOP failed to capitalize on the public’s dislike for Obamacare in 2014. They managed to nominate the one Republican politician who had zero credibility on the issue (Romney, the architect of Romneycare). The absence of Republican leadership on healthcare makes me suspect they want single payer as much as the Democrats. Certainly the multinational corporations funding GOP campaigns will appreciate having the government take over employer funded health plans.

My Aetna Bronze plan is going up 45% here in VA. Didn’t go through exchanges - no subsidy.

Even if your income is low enough to get a premium subsidy, you’re still facing huge deductibles so you have a lot of out of pocket costs.
