Better to spend the money on SpaceX than Sylendra and other renewable energy debacles.

Why are we spending public money on a private space company again?

Keep track of Blue Origin, too. There is some government contract funding involved, but it seems to be much less than Space X funding.

It is called “crony capitalism”.

Musk, btw, is a Hillary Clinton contributor and Hillary is one of their boosters.

I didn’t read it but assume he blames it on “Global Warming”?

Of course. Musk is a world class snake oil salesman.

Musk is an anagram for skum. And a close cousin of skam.

"According to Business Insider, “An ongoing investigation into the fireball, which occurred at Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) in Cape Canaveral, Fla., has narrowed the blast's origin to a breach in a helium tank."

The writer of the article is an idiot. A "....breach in a helium tank...." would extinguish a fire and prevent an explosion, not cause one.

And yes, both SpaceX and Blue Origin "have" had failures...that is how progress in engineering is made.

NASA's record was a LOT worse. Neither SpaceX or Blue Origin has killed anyone due to vehicle failure. It may yet happen...but thus far has not.

I just hope Elon Musk (for his sake) holds off a while longer before placing himself aboard one of his explosions... er spacecraft.

The first time I saw the film, I said it was sabotage. I spent my career in the missile business (I am not - however - familiar with this missile). But I do know that there is nothing in that area of a missile to cause an explosion. There are lots of pipes - where are the easiest thing to pressure test. All of the action is down below. Just does not make sense to me.

I didn’t know about the Hillary connection, but it explains things. I can’t see how it’s in the public interest to give public funds, ie. your and my money, to a foreign immigrant when we at least nominally have our own space agency, not to mention American companies already doing this, like the Boeing co-owned one mentioned above.

Because 5 sitting presidents in a row couldn’t be bothered to greenlight the shuttle replacement and 7 sitting presidents in a row cut NASAs budget and now we functionally don’t have a space program anymore.

I’m aware of the non-support, just can’t see then why those public funds should be going to private endeavor.

Solundra and Space X are both boon doogles. The claim that Space X is the private market doing space travel is a joke

Blue Origin is being paid as a vendor instead of a service provider - they’re making rocket engines the government is going to buy.
