The media treated him the same way they treat Trump. They viewed his candidacy as a "joke". He was an actor, not a politician. I recall that election so well - the anxiety leading up to election day with the polls predicting a Carter win by a large margin, the election map where even the most democtatic states, like NY, turned red as the returns cam in, the dismayed expressions of the media ... and the early call, before the CA polls closed. It was so gratifying!
Was thrilled Reagan won. We were married Aug of ‘81, husband with a good job and myself still in college. By the next year he was laid off. Carter left the economy in a shambles. Reagan years were the best.
The last 2 elections were pretty much assured to go to Obama. You can't compare the enthusiasm of Obama voters to Hilary; who attracts no crowds.
Me too!
And I'll be just as thrilled (if not more so) if Trump does.
Political science professor Helmut Norpoth, who has accurately called the results of the last five presidential elections, still asserts that Donald Trump has an 87% chance of defeating Hillary Clinton despite Clinton being ahead in the polls. READ MORE
Pride goeth before the fall. In her arrogance, she truly believes the lies that she will win these states.
What I am about to relay is only my experience, but I work with quite a few black women. They LOATHE Hillary Clinton and have stated they will NOT be voting for her. Will they vote Trump? Will they fall in line and vote ‘D’? I don’t know, but these women are not political by any stretch of the imagination. I played it off by asking if I could write in Mickey Mouse. They laughed and I left.
Well since the average is 19 to 1 in the past, this is GOOD NEWS.
You laughed and laughed and laughed, and then you left,
And now you know I'm utterly mad.
Other than some bleached blonde twit I passed on the highway with a Hillary/Kaine window sticker, I have seen/heard no one voting for the Hildebeast. Trump, yes. Harridan, no.
When DJT is announced as President-Elect Donald J. Trump, I will laugh like a hyena.
Trump is way too strong mentally to fall for it. The hope is that some of his voters might.
Well, too late to affect me. I already voted :)
But this would make me want to vote for him EVEN MORE!!
Yes, 1980 is a long time ago
Remember it well. Could not wait to vote for Reagan.
I had just got done serving under Carter, the mortgage on my house was 17%
What about the converse - did he see movement towards Hillary?
CA....
He was saying it’s Hillary’s to lose.

Lol! I remember it well. We had just purchased our first home and were punished by the interest rate on our homeowner's loan.. That, plus the long lines at the gas stations. And then there were the "fireside chats" Carter had with the American public, speaking about the need to conserve energy. He sat in the Oval Office, dressed in a sweater.
