President Obama on Friday commuted the sentences of 72 inmates, the latest sign he is accelerating his clemency push during his final months in office.

ADVERTISEMENT It was the second time in the past eight days the White House announced that a large group of people, most convicted of nonviolent drug offenses, would be released from federal prison. The two batches totaled 170 inmates.

In total, 944 people have had their sentences cut short by Obama — more than the last 11 presidents combined — with 760 receiving commutations this year alone.

“What President Obama has done for commutations is unprecedented in the modern era,” White House counsel Neil Eggleston wrote in a blog post.

Screw the juries and the 200+ years of American judicial decisions.

Can’t wait to see mugshots of all of them. They will likely be color pictures.

Any significance on this particular number?

Were they all virgins?

I wager they were all Amish, most with first name of “Jakey”

“Obama has ramped up his use of clemency power to free prisoners serving lengthy sentences handed down during the government’s war on drugs.”

Screw the war on drugs which, unlike Prohibition which required a constitutional amendment, operates and imprisons on the whims of federal government. And screw the drug warriors, too.

How many were black, how many were democrats, how many were Muslim, and how many were druggies? How many were all of the above?

Commuting a sentence should be race-blind, based on the merits of the case. But what should happen has nothing to do with Barack Hussein or his corrupt world.

Someone needs to track these released criminals to see how they conduct themselves after their release.

Just in case it is "News" to some on FR..., very often deals are made to plea to mere possession or other "Non-Violent" crimes when the prosecutors are overwhelmed with cases OR they don't want to take a chance on losing on a more violent charge...

I agree, but this is an end-run around the laws -- rather than fixing the laws.

And, I would be curious what the criteria might be for commutation? How many poor white guys with a meth conviction are getting a sentence commuted?

My guess is either black or well-connected to major democrat donors. Or both.

I wonder what the quid pro quo is...

Love to have been a fly on the wall during the pre-release meetings with these individuals by representatives of the Obama admin. Probably told them they’d have to repay with a favor...say, after the election to start uprisings?

I’ve seen enough the last 2 weeks that something like this is no longer unthinkable.

Lovely.

Obama has repeatedly denounced the long sentences for nonviolent drug offenses as overly punitive, arguing they’ve had a devastating impact on communities of color.

Has this idiot president seen what drug dealing and drug use have done to communities of color?

The latest batch also includes nine inmates convicted on firearm-related charges.

So much for nonviolent offenders.
