The Governor of South Carolina, Republican Nikki Haley, has reportedly been picked by President-elect Donald Trump to be the ambassador of the US to the United Nations.

According to the Washington Post, her views about national security and US military are in line with the GOP's hawkish stance. Haley met Trump in New York at the Trump Tower last Thursday.

If the appointment is confirmed, Haley could be replaced by Lieutenant Governor Henry McMaster, a top Trump aide.

Messed up on the sentence, should read “to be appointed to any position.” Also, “She is more pro-Obama than pro Conservative”

Trump made a big play for the Indian vote, saying in ads directed at the Indian community that if elected, India would have a friend in the White House.

Great way to get rid of the RINOs. Maybe Trump Republicans can take the office.

“That’s one more establishment problem under control”

Good point. I don’t care a whole lot for Nikki, but this should be a good place for her.

McMaster shouldn’t have any trouble hanging onto the governor’s mansion. As for Lindsey, if Trey Gowdy can be persuaded to run against him in the next GOP primary (I think Graham is up again in 2020), you’ll see Graham quickly announce his retirement. Until then, Graham won’t leave the Senate for anything short of SecDef or Secretary of State, and Trump wouldn’t dream of offering him any post on that level.

Why would a sitting South Carolina Governor be willing to become the UN Ambassador unless the Republican Party is grooming her to become the First Woman President in 2024?

Otherwise it seems to me the UN Ambassadorship is a demotion.

It’s a do nothing job where she will have to take orders from DT and get to live on the top floor of the Waldorf for a few years.

Totally correct! The days are long past when UN Ambassador was a prestigious post. Anybody here remember the guy who resigned from the Supreme Court to go to the UN?

Wouldn't happen today, you can bet the debt on it. 50 years makes some difference.

Its a bit disappointing to say the least. She is certainly not to be trusted.

As others have hinted, there may be a lot more thought having gone into the logic of the appointment, than one might read at face value.

Hopefully she will be instructed to begin relaying the message that the UN can happily f-k right off if they don’t like our upcoming choices regarding their financing.

Strategically not bad, though I hate rewarding anti-Trumpers in any way, shape, or form. But you put someone in a nothing job that will be further diminished under Trump, while moving an ally into the governor’s mansion.

Which is why shunting her off to a meaningless position where you listen to the Cantina cast from Star Wars rail day after day is not only good, but probably a fitting punishment.
