I’m a medical resident. You’ll make my job harder if you repeal Obamacare. [Snowflake!]

Most Doctors as well as most residents have no idea what medical costs to the patient are running. A GP has the best idea because he gets better feedback but I know a cardiologist that was blown away to find out a non lethal cardiac event involving 23 hours in the hospital was $32,000.

For that event for a family member I paid 320 just before Obama Care in force for us.

If it had happened 8 months later it would have cost me about 6,500 with Obama care plus the high cost of the Obama Care itself.

Goofball. I’ve practiced internal medicine for 31 years. The federal government has made it so much harder to practice. You’re lucky to be around when some of this bs will be hopefully rolled back. Quit listening to academic doctors and get to work. You’ll understand much better.
The dangerous alliance of corporate healthcare, academic medicine, IT companies, insurance companies and the government has been so detrimental to healthcare.

I have worked with a number of great female physicians. I said I have nothing against them. But mommy doctor is a lot tougher than daddy doctor.

You are a unique individual if you could raise children while she was in training.

Snowflake says genius Obama has lowered healthcare costs (a lie)

My HMO went from pennies for deductables to $6500/yr. since obamacare. Bottom line, I'm paying for everyone else's health care so can't afford my own.

Read an article some years ago. Author was a doctor who was trained in the 1950s. Said his nights on duty were so boring he brought his guitar with him to have something to do.

Most of the time now is spent on MEDICAL RECORDS instead of providing care.

Absolutely.

I bet that, while you are the exception, your wife agrees with me. In most cases I do think the children or the patients suffer.

I got nothing against women. I love women. Been married to one for going on 44 years. But realistically Medicine, and especially surgery just ain’t a field for women. I would not bar them but I would make sure from day one they realize what they are trading away. A guy can be a father and a resident but a female can’t be a mother and a resident. Gonna suck at one if not both.

_______________

I have talked with tearful MD females who realize they cannot have children and meet their responsibilities.

I am of the belief now that double docs or other high earning/educated marriages are not always great. Sometimes there needs to be someone whose dream it is to stay home and raise the kids. Of course in this no fault divorce world that person puts themselves at risk.

My brother in law is a doctor and he sold his practice out last year and is considering going into teaching. He said that obamacare and government red tape made practicing medicine and making a profit impossible under the useless pile of crap known as obamacare. He did managed to walk away after taxes with $15 million when he sold out, not bad...

Snowflake Medicine apparently was not a special area of practice in your era!

I'm currently a resident. The ACGME has residents (or at least interns) limited to 60-hour work weeks, but I'm in an AOA program and ours was still limited to an 80-hour week and 24-hour single shifts, and alone overnight in the hospital. My IM call this last weekend was 5 PM Friday to 7 AM Monday, then go to my rotation on Monday. Too bad ACGME is ruining that with the residency merger.

The Affordable Care Act sucks, but the much bigger problem, which won't go away with repealing ACA, is the behavior of Medicare. They conspire to not pay hospitals and physicians for work performed.

Snowflake tried to make the Death Panel Law sound conservative:

Yes but the brilliance of death panels is it solves the 30day readmission rate. /S

Lastly, I don't want to hear about your long workweek. This is part and parcel the deal to become a doctor. Suck it up.

And ACGME work rules state that he can take care of a total of 5 patients a day. He will be well prepared in 3 years to take care of 18 -25 patients a day in the typical hospital setting . . . NOT.

I wonder if he complains to the Emphysema patient who comes back within 30 days because they won't quit smoking (a sarcastic way of showing that not every readmission is due to poor hospital or outpatient care or poor transition between the two)?

I know a cardiologist that was blown away to find out a non lethal cardiac event involving 23 hours in the hospital was $32,000.

That's because the cardiologist probably gets 100 bucks on such a stay if someone was nice enough to consult him(or her).
