The protest is actually on federal land, not on the reservation. ETP, the owner of the pipeline, plans to route the pipe under the Missouri River at Lake Oahe, which is a reservoir from which the Standing Rock Indian Reservation — and other towns and communities — get their drinking water: The concern is that if the pipe breaks the drinking water would get fouled. It’s ironic when you think of it, because back in the day one of the reasons Indian villages kept moving UPSTREAM was because they fouled the river and stream water themselves with their unhygienic behavior.
There is also some stink about “sacred grounds” being violated, but the Indians think the entire North American continent is sacred ground.
In an ironic twist, the Indians may be the ultimate winners of the Indian Wars, because today the entire country is pretty much held hostage to Indian interests.
They don’t need water cannons. What they need is snow making machines. Bury them in six feet of snow.
I say stunt.

Isn’t this new oil pipeline mostly running alongside the existing natural gas pipeline? New land is not being first time desecrated by modern societies hardware.

This has nothing to do with the environment and the Indians have no standing and these vets are just being useful idiots.

the protest is hardly peaceful, and they are blocking lawful actions of building a pipeline.
The pipeline does not go through Indian land. It goes under a river nearby.
Their drinking water source is moving anyway.

You show me 2,000 vets going to this pipeline protest and I’ll show you 2,000 misguided fools. One of my fellow vets is on the far left of the field. He’s a big time Bernie guy, and frankly never was too bright from what I can remember. While 2,000 vets are freezing their asses off over a fake cause, I’ll be obeying the law and being productive at work to provide for my family and myself.
These protestors needs some tear gas and rubber bullets. To hell with them!

The “payoff”.........reminds me of the need for a recount currently going on that was nothing more than a money scam to raise some funds.
