They are trying to bring down the very concept of nationhood.
That’s what the newly minted accusations of nativism and xenophobia are intended for. The aim of those words is to eradicate any positive connotation contained in words like citizen and patriotism.
In their mind there should be no difference between a citizen of a country and any outsider. Having open borders obviously is part and parcel of the same goal.
These people must absolutely cringe when they hear Trump say “America first” or that he “will take care of Americans first”, or “build that wall”.
Trump stated it very succinctly early on when he brought up the wall and defending the borders - “We either have a country or we don’t”.
So in a nutshell, the fight all over the world today is between those who want to keep their nations and national identities, and those who want to eliminate nations and replace them with a one world government.
I’m all for one world government, but only if I get to be King.
There will also be a referendum in the Netherlands in March, 2017. They have the intention to Nexit. Dominos has become a popular game in the EU.

I believe you mean the parliamentary election scheduled for March 15, next year.
