The EU bureaucrappy needs to be put out of its dictatorial misery

the several European nations can continue to trade and live peacefully without having an unresponsible/dictatorial overlord in Brussels

I could see it reverting to a “common market” type of arrangement, which would be good for everyone involved. But the nationalist feelings are exploding all over europe, and I think it’s healthy.

I know the left and the one-worlders want to tie anything nationalistic to the Nazis and Hitler. But this new type of nationalism is DEFENSIVE. No one is looking to invade other countries, they only want to defend theirs from invaders , reclaim their CITIZENSHIPS and control their internal destinies.

These new nationalist leaders are as different from Hitler as George Washington.

Yeah. I wished we had that here so the MSM would STFU. But I doubt CNN would keep quiet LOL Even the mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi is anti-establishment for Grillo, and she’s hot too. But my family is from Naples, everyone there hates Renzi and will vote NO.

I think Italy will be the next Brexit/Trump but France is 50/50.

Prayers up for EU demise.
I remember when EU was formed. We had at least one and perhaps several threads on FR re the preamble of the EU constitution (?) or whatever their founding document was called. In contrast to our constitution, which begins with “We the people...” theirs began by citing the crowned heads of Europe (now working as waiters and taxidermists) and thanking them for permission to form the EU.

The EU has always been a crock.

You sure about that? Not a single one of these nationalists are speaking of getting away from socialism. Now if they were actually speaking like the USA’s Founding Fathers, I’d be among the first of those to point that out. But saying things like “better European Union” is just pure imperialism.

Furthermore, the “common market” was a precursor to the present-day EU. It was a Fabian version of the USSR, and had all the USSR-like governmental machinery in place, including requiring countries to submit to laws it made—the most draconian being a common agricultural policy (collectivizing farming to a dangerous degree).

That is an understatement.

The banks in Italy are pretty intertwined with other euro banks. The liquidity crises that could occur as Italian bonds are marked to market could be the pebble that tips over the apple cart.

“Putin has touted his collection of former Soviet states as the Eurasian Union, making it an economic union at first after the EU’s pattern, coming into being officially two years ago. I’m surprised you are not familiar with it.”

I’m familiar with it - I was being sarcastic. It’s more like the common market used to be.

There are always going to be regional associations and spheres of influence. This has existed forever. The US had its Monroe doctrine - still kinda does. But the EU is a different kind of beast. And one could make an argument that the US is that kind of beast also, but it evolved in a very different environment. The original 13 colonies all spoke English and had essentially the same culture. New States that joined the Union were the same way.

The EU is made up of states with different languages, cultures, long histories and prejudices, with strong national identities. It was a long shot from the very beginning.

The EU was always designed to be imperialistic. Including the so-called “economic community” version. Ireland’s Third Amendment of 1972, which had to be approved by referendum in order to join this abomination, had language in it that gave EU dictates “the force of law in the State”, which means that this was an entity that was destroying national sovereignty even back then. The treaties that formed each iteration of this union always contained clauses in its articles referring to “accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations”—and that charter is a clone of the 1936 USSR constitution as designed by Stalin. And if the Eurasian Union has any likeness to the EEC, things are working similarly there as well; after all, they have greater familiarity with it.

The USA was founded as the antithesis of entities such as the EU, but the left-wing politicians here have been pushing to make us into its clone. Obama has been doing the most to make things that way, acting as a one-man version of the European Commission (although not a one-man show if all of the bloated unconstitutional executive departments are taken into account).

It would be best if it did revert to a Common Market. No further than a trade bloc. The EU’s demise will be due to micromanaging to the point of interfering with the sovereignty of its member states and some states being fiscally irresponsible expecting the stronger states to bail them out.

My reference to Washington and the founders was in regard to not wanting to be under the thumb of Britain, to opt for self determination.

Whether, after regaining their sovereignty, they stick with some level of socialism or free market, that remains to be seen.

I see self determination and choice of economic system as two separate things.
