Things aren't looking good for Sears. The company is shutting down dozens of Kmart stores this month and two of its highest-ranking executives left this week in the midst of the key holiday shopping season. This comes following speculation among Sears and Kmart employees, suppliers, and several banks that the retailer will soon go bankrupt — something Sears has repeatedly dismissed. Jeff Balagna, formerly Sears' executive vice president, left the company Wednesday, "in order to focus on his other business interests and pursue other career opportunities," Sears said in an SEC filing dated November 23.

I was shocked a couple of years ago, tried to do some shopping there. There was no indication from anyone or anything that they were in any way interested in having my money.

I’m surprised they are still in business.

Unlike Sears they only ask at checkout. They don’t have sales drones following you around asking if you want to buy the extended warranty every 5 minutes in an incessant cycle. I went into Sears one day and had three associates taking turns trying to sell me the extended warranty plans in a tag-team fashion.

On Craftsman hand tools.

That already had a lifetime warranty.

Now that Craftsman tools are made in China, I have no reason to ever shop at Sears again.

A few years ago, a daughter bought me a Craftsman rolling tool cabinet for Christmas. I didn't need it as I have a couple other tool cabinets, but kept it. I was shocked at how poorly and cheaply it was made. The sheet metal was thin, the welds poorly done, the drawers were not on rollers and had lousy handles, there was no lining in drawers and the wheels were flimsy. Contrast that to my other off-brand cabinets that were half the cost but several times better than Craftsman. It should be called Crapman!

For tools, I go to Harbor Freight now.

A lot of tool purists knock Harbor Freight. Not me, I've bought a bunch of tools from them and they work, at a fraction of the price of other tools. For instance, Craftsman tools with bad welds and poor performance. Versus Harbor Freight that gets the job done. I hate to say it, but the Chinese stuff that Harbor Freight sells is better than the Chinese stuff that Sears sells. And it's not just Chinese stuff. I bought a mitre-saw stand at Orchard Supply (when it was owned by Sears) because it was American made, but it had crappy welds which I cut and rewelded myself. Orchard Supply is now Lowes owned.

Also, it was K-Mart that bought Sears in an attempt to keep K-Mart afloat.

The sellout to K-Mart was the big play for the Sears Board of Directors to get out from the Defined Pension Plan. Once they sold out the new company didn't have to honor the plan and the funds were absorbed back and given out to the voting stock holders, which, of course, were the Board members.

My sister worked for Sears for 30 years and lost her Defined Pension then and had to start over at that point with a 401K. There was another sellout to a holding company (owned by the Board) that gutted that 401K so when my sister retired she was offered either $100 per month or $50K. That's it...for 30 years of work.

Went to the local Sears store looking at artificial Christmas trees this past week. The store was literally devoid of customers and sales clerks. Our current tree is 16 years old and past its expiration date. We looked at every tree they had on display, taking us about 20 minutes. I found a suitable tree to buy, but the two sales people who had been at the cash register with customers when we arrived were long gone, as were those customers. There was absolutely no one in sight for about 10 minutes. This was in a wide area filled with tools, snow blowers, and appliances. Unwilling to chase after a clerk, we went home.

The next day I went online to the Sears website and found the tree I wanted was an additional $15.00 off and another $10.00 off using a certain code word at online checkout. Topping it off, I will receive free shipping to my front door.

“Typical liberal MBA crowd running yet another company into the ground.”

Yep. Very typical. Libtard indoctrinated MBA crowd is just sooooo much smarter (with their pieces of paper to prove it) than the older unwashed, many of whom were the guys who started these big companies with nothing more than a determination to succeed, life experience, a strong devotion to God, and LOTS of hard work!

My Dad always bought just about EVERYTHING there from tools to appliances to lawn mowers to clothing. I, too, in my younger years went there for appliances and a water heater and a lawn mower - it was THE place to go.

Same here - grew up following my Dad down the aisles of Sears....

“Just walking inside a K-Mart is depressing.”

Absolutely! The last one I was in is situated just north of the border. 99% of the customers inside it were Hispanics who had come across the border (legally) to do some shopping. It was just like entering into a cheap Mexican department store. Haven’t been back to one since.

Yes, that is a known thing - but again, Sears was starting to bleed out before Walmart became popular. The collapse of Sears is almost completely from stupidity and self-inflicted wounds.
