“Isn’t all of the govt under fers? Which is not a defined benefit plan.”

You are right. FERS is a defined contribution plan. I too assumed that pretty much the entire Federal workforce is under FERS. Postal workers and some others may be treated differently.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, a federal entity, has its own retirement system, the TVARS. Which is grossly underfunded like most government pension programs. But it is not subject to the same rules that dictate funding levels for the pension plans in the private sector so they get away with it.

The Treasury Employee’s union is the most problematic. Its very politically active & dangerous since it almost wholly infesting IRS.

I remember a “government shutdown.” I was declared essential and reported to work.

The press moaned and groaned about poor workers sent home without pay. Those people caught up on home projects, etc., while I worked. After the so-called shut down, they were all given back pay. Basically, they received a paid vacation.

Yes, FERS has a defined contribution (i.e., 401K plan) element. But in addition to this they also have a traditional pension plan which includes regular Cost of Living increases.

“Working for the government shouldn’t be a ticket to ride.”......

Hope the law gets changed so it effects ALL government workers including the lawmakers, the ones who have created this mess.

Orderly move many jobs out of the DC area to the states. Even concentration of power, lobbyists, and contractors. With technology they do not need all the staffing and support staff to be in the DC area. DC voted 93% for Clinton. NoVA and Maryland suburbs almost as bad in their patterns. ALl feeding at the trough.

Let some of the contract managers work in Minot, ND or Ketchikan Alaska.

Start by resurrecting the study that the Pentagon reportedly buried exposing $125 billion in waste. The study exposes the number of excessive employees, contractors, etc. Here is the Link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3502123/posts

I have absolutely no problem with work-from-home if the person is doing their job.

Now, if they’re not doing their job (i.e. “working from home”, quotes emphasized, as you put it :-) ), then they lose that privilege.

Whenever one of my employees teleworks, I request a synopsis of their activities during their telework hours. They're pretty good about doing that.

Thanks.

You just have to suck it up. Sometimes it is appreciated.

For white men, affirmative action is like walking into a headwind. But I know of one civilian who advanced quickly nonetheless.

He attended lots of meetings with higher officers. They would give him difficult assignments, which he never resisted, and regularly got on his case. It was almost like hazing.

He just persevered. He had to prove himself several times, but ultimately advanced. He kept this up. Long hours and some stress for years, but he climbed the corporate ladder.

I’m actually very interested and excited to see how much wait times decrease at he DMV if/when Trump follows through with this. Suspect the customer service will increase 100 fold when their jobs are no longer guaranteed.
____

.Ironically, all the people waiting on line for welfare will love Trump because they won’t have to deal with the bureaucrats

I am CSRS, It is a defined benefit plan as is FERS with its SS and basic benefit component excepting the thrift savings plan which is the 401K part.
