As regards the TSA and their stereotypical personnel, I’m definitely on the same page every day and twice on Sunday. The situation could have been addressed much better without taking on a new federal bureaucracy.
Kiwi tourist detained as Kazakhstan officials say New Zealand is not a country
Is the TSA in Kazakhstan too?
Just because New Zealanders are funny looking and live in sides of hills does not mean they are not a country.

The official has probably been listening to a few too many Aussies. I had one try to convince me that New Zealanders like to be called “pommy poofters”. Strangely, they don’t...
It never was intended to ever be...
While Australia was to continue to only be a penal colony, New Zealand was from the start a settled country...
I'm afraid I have to take a little issue with this history...
From 1788 until 1841, the land now known as New Zealand, was considered part of the Colony of New South Wales under Governor Philip's charter. In 1841, it was carved out as a separate colony in the same way Victoria and Queensland were at different times.
And, yes, when it was declared a separate colony, in 1841, it was a free colony - but so were South Australia, Western Australia, and Victoria - New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland were convict settlements - the other Australian colonies weren't, just as New Zealand wasn't.
As for the idea that New Zealand was never intended to be part of Australia, section 6 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia reads:
"The States" shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia, as for the time being are parts of the Commonwealth, and such colonies or territories as may be admitted into or established by the Commonwealth as States; and each of such parts of the Commonwealth shall be called "a State".
New Zealand was originally quite enthusiastic about becoming part of the new combined nation of Australia - more enthusiastic than Queensland or Western Australia, but through the 1890s moved away from the idea - as it had every right to do, but it was seriously contemplated and London probably would have preferred it to happen - there was quite a bit of consternation that they'd given all the Australasian colonies too much say.
It's certainly true that New Zealand is a fully sovereign nation and the idea that it's part of Australia in the modern world is an absolute nonsense, which is what makes this story rather funny.
