Repealing itself? Only 4 of 24 Obamacare exchanges still open
Daily Caller ^ | Dec 12, 2016 | Richard Pollock

Only four of the original 24 Obamacare health co-ops remain standing after Maryland’s co-op announced Dec. 8 it was suspending the sale of individual health insurance policies, the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group has found.

The four remaining co-ops clinging to financial solvency are in Massachusetts, Montana, New Mexico, Wisconsin.

This. Was confused by the title and then figured out that OP had completely mixed up coops and exchanges. Exchanges are doing fine.

They voted for Obama. But we’re nice :/

If we can figure it out, that’s great but I agree...not going to cry for people who voted to screw the country

"You can’t just dump the ACA with no replacement and leave 20 million people flapping in the breeze. There has to be a transitional replacement in place."

Bullsh*t. If Obamacare was repealed tomorrow with no replacement, we would go back to the greatest medical care system in the world. No one would be denied medical care because of standing laws. Your idea that "20 million..." is a false narrative.

Here's my problem with Obamacare:
1. The penalties that Justice Robert declared a TAX when the law and the arguing pro-lawyers clearly said a penalty! I will never get over that USSC decision that Americans must buy a product or endure a tax;
2. The idea of a 25 year old man or woman MUST be included in their parent's insurance. Really? I could see up to 18 or maybe 21, but 26?
3. Subsidies for the poor. I'm so sick of hearing about the poor. Want to compare our poor with wide-screen TVs to those around the World?
4. While I understand about pre-existing conditions, that is hardly what insurance is about. I'd be happy to not pay auto insurance until I get in an accident. There have always been high-risk pools for that.
5. Mostly, the ever increasing premiums with HUGE deductibles for those who are above the minimum and don't receive subsidies. Socialist redistribution, again. Read every day where a family can't afford the monthly payments nor can use their high deductibles. Wasn't a problem before Obamacare.
6. The countless Doctors who have retired not wanting to deal with the paper bureaucracy.

There are answers for the uninsured, but first do away with this gawd-awful Obamacare. Let the insurance companies, hospitals, medical care personnel figure it out. Socialism never works; free enterprise does.

They gave 90% of California another free entitlement.

90% pay less than $100 a month for insurance. You have to be just above poverty or worse to get that.

Means 90% of California is at the poverty line these days. Good luck telling them no more free stuff.

" Once unleashed, and maybe before, they'll be going hog-wild writing new business in the individual market...and unlike before, selling it nationwide. It'll be "survival of the fittest" as the least regulated/best organized entities hit the track...the carriers from loser states will bog down and leave the race."

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Free enterprise wins every time over socialism/redistribution. I've talked with my own Doctor about Obamacare many times and he has said the same.

Was that a Proposition Initiate on the CA ballot? I always look who is sponsoring such initiatives and sometimes don't read further. This year I was really immersed with the Trump/Clinton thing, so I may have missed that one.

That said, yes CA is a social mess. It will continue to be so unless Trump shows how to increase jobs and convince people that illegal aliens are NOT the answer.

The proponents always bring up the agricultural areas of Cali and how no citizens will pick crops. That has long been a liberal fallacy. Most of illegals work in the cities, very very few pick crops. I know from owning/operating a business in Pico Rivera close to East LA and dealing with illegals on a daily basis. Crop pickers are probably 2% of all illegals in Cali, if not less.

When the ACA passed, at least 20 million people lost their previous plans and were left flapping in the breeze, including myself. Nobody cared then, so why should we now?

Politically, they will probably have to keep the “stay on your parents’ policy until age 26. I’d rather see that remain as an option where insurers may choose that option for a competitive advantage rather than a mandate where insurers must offer it, but I suspect it will remain.

The other part of this evil law that might be politically difficult to kill is the preexisting conditions. I’d like to see that remain in some sort of high-risk pool option, if it remains at all. The rest of Obamacare though should be gone at the end of 2017. The “phase out” should be that those on Obamacare may (not must) stay on for the calendar year that starts in three weeks.

If President Trump manages to revoke and repeal the rest of Obama’s legacy and we’re stuck just with those two provisions and the crippling debt that he socialists bequeathed to our children, that’s pretty good considering. I’d still say we dodged a bullet during these eight terrible years.

The “framers” of 0bamacare knew that their project would only “work” with coercion and force.

IMO Obamacare was designed to fail to try to give us the NHS as a next step. It turns out people weren’t willing to blame insurers for raising premiums and vote for more socialism given the clear connections between premium rates and Obamacare.

That said, health insurance is how people pay for health care. Unless you have a solution for people with preexisting conditions who don’t have employer plans, ending Obamacare is going to screw millions of people.

If your plan is to sell the public on “let people die if they can’t afford market rate health care” you might need a better tagline for ending Obamacare.

Insurance companies make money screwing people out of coverage. If they hadn’t overreached in the first place Obamacare would never have had any traction to begin with.

There can be many changes throughout the entire healthcare system. There are tons of regulations that affect this sector, just like other sectors of the economy.

Under covered California, they had a representative boasting 90% of Californians pay less than $100 for their silver plan. (I pay nearly $500 for what would be a bronze plan).

So I looked up what the financial status would be for someone who would pay $100 or less for a silver plan. Answer was someone around the poverty line or lower.

So based on what Covered California representatives said, 90% of Californians are at the poverty line or worse.

First off, this is not a dig at you.

Just what is the true number of people on / in Obama's ACA.

I heard during Obama's running for office / Fake news site(s) ABC-NBC-CBS-CNN, Et al. anywhere from a low of 5 million up to 30 million?

Just what is the correct number??????

It's like how do you spell Libya's - Dictator - Muammar Mohammed Abu Minyar Gaddafi commonly known as Colonel Gaddafi / Muammar al-Qaddafi, and few other (like 10 other) spellings.

This cancer has metastasized through out our economy. The law itself is 2,700 pages, and it has spawned 20,000 pages of regulations. Removing it won't be easy, and it will take time.

True. I'd like to see Obamacare disappear, but I'd also like to see the return of major medical insurance. If I want to cover only hospitalization and similar large expenses and an insurance company wants to sell me the policy I want to buy, that should be legal.

Neither can retirees get employer insurance. In fact when you retire any insurance you have becomes secondary to Medicare.

And then abolish Medicaid and Medicare.

?????Abolishing them would be robbing those of us who paid our taxes and had fees wrested from our checks for decades. Make sure they are only used for what they were designated for.
