An unarmed grandfather in the early stages of dementia was shot dead by police while he walked around the block near his home. Francisco Serna, 73, was hit nine times by gunfire from police in Bakersfield, California, answering a call about a man with a gun - but no weapon was recovered from the scene. He was stood in his neighbor's driveway at around 12.30am Monday morning when he was gunned down. His family said he took the late-night walks to tire himself out.

“Now there are cops that are good, most are good.”

I no longer buy that excuse, since they never turn in the bad cops, instead the so-called “good cops” always lock elbows to protect the bad cops.

Sad state for affairs when really good cops have to put up with the bad ones and do not have any recourse but to quit. It is a loss all around. Good cops gone and bad ones still there.

What’s a “swatting incident”?

For the uninformed, SWATting is a call to the police where the informant (person making the call) alleges bad things about the incident or the people involved (i.e. Man walking around the neighborhood waving a gun.) when in fact the informant knows that not to be the truth, but wishes to create mischief (i.e. hurt someone or get a quicker police response.) This has already resulted in shootings and unwarranted breaches of homes in several parts of the country. Clear enough?

Not everyone can be a police officer. Those who did this shooting are either poorly trained or unfit. Or both. At the very least, they should be fired.

As a taxpayer, I hate when my taxes are used to pay for these lawsuits and no administrator, politician, or individual cop is held responsible. If this were a business and the management kept losing lawsuits to plaintiffs, the management would eventually be replaced for its malfeasance. Politicians think they can sit in their office and not do anything about the problems in their bailiwick, except dole out taxpayer money (... And I guess they’re right about that. They can and do.)

Where’s the governor come down on this? Is he at all responsible? How about the mayor? Police chief?

Yup.I guess learning about this is yet another lesson for me regarding how depraved this country is today.

Hope Bakersfield has a lot of money to settle the lawsuit that is coming.

Unlike the brain surgeon potential of people like the gentle giant, 73 year old retirees aren’t worth much in civil court. Just facts from trial lawyers.

If true the family should also consider suing whoever phoned the cops on him.

“Police responded about 12:30 a.m. to a report of a man brandishing a handgun in the 7900 block of Silver Birch Avenue, a neighborhood in the southwest corner of the city, Bakersfield police Sgt. Gary Carruesco said.

When police arrived, a witness pointed to a man in the driveway of a residence. An officer fired several rounds at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Totally agree. And I put the blame on the Academies. The guy or gal who did this should be identified.

When I was a kid, a cop was at least 6 ‘ tall and looked like a weapon was extraneous equipment. Just by his mere presence, he commanded obedience.

Today we have little girls and skinny 5’6” wimps running around with more crap hanging from their belts than they weigh. And they think they are cops.

This was the action was a coward who is unfit to wear a uniform.

***Whoever called this in to 911 said he had a gun***

And? Because some dumb ass thinks they see someone with a gun the cops are supposed to just show up and start firing like it’s the old west?

Cops are clearly not trained properly anywhere. Years ago a friend of mine was in a car accident. The reason he was in a car accident was because he went into diabetic shock. Because he was acting “out of it” they handcuffed him and was fixing to take him to jail. Thankfully when the paramedics arrived they noticed his DIABETIC BRACELET and immediately knew what was wrong, got the cops to take the cuffs off and they began treatment on the scene and rushed him to the hospital.

My brother n law was in a severe car accident with severe head trauma and because he wasn’t acting “normal” he rode in the ambulance handcuffed because they thought he was on drugs. Turns out he had severe head trauma which was obvious by his obvious broken jaw.
