The Mexican ambassador to the United States is urging more Mexican citizens living abroad to apply for U.S. citizenship, ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's administration.
Ambassador Carlos Sada Solana told Mexican state news agency Notimex Tuesday that applying for citizenship could be an important defense against deportation and other actions if Trump changes U.S. immigration policies.
"It's one of the very important protection actions to become citizens, because then they're no longer subject to deportation processes and on the other hand, they don't lose Mexican citizenship," he told Notimex.

Has anyone ever wondered why it is of utmost importance to mexico to have as many of their citizens as humanly possible to not live in Mexico? There must be a reason.
So, essentially this guy is saying ‘go flood the US, send us money, become a citizen there, and stay a citizen here. There's absolutely no respect for the US in that. Why don't we deal with our uninsured by encouraging them to apply for Canadian citizenship, getting the Canadian system to pay for health care, but maintaining US citizenship. It's equivalent.

It must really hurt the ego to be am ambassador for a failed state that can only remain in existenceby excreting their lowest castes to a more successful, and freer, and less racist country.
All those proud Mexicans who come here and proudly proclaim they are proud Mexicans living in this racist country don’t even realize their own nation doesn’t want them. And they are more than happy to come here and live under the radar and collect gibs from taxpayers.
Someone who is here illegally should not be able to apply for citizenship. It doesn’t make sense.

Mexico totally leeches off the United States. The only way for its failed economic system to survive is to export as much of its population as it can, and then have them send money back to the country.
Americans turning up after sneaking across the border in Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez or any other Mexican border town, demanding Mexican citizenship would be met with what? Laughter at best, prison more likely.
good idea...now we’ll know where they’re hiding...but the ones I really want the government to deport the hell out of country are the FREaKIN MUSLIMS!!! At least the majority of Hispanics believe in Jesus and are family oriented. The Mexican judges tell the criminals they can go to jail or go to the US.
Only those in the country legally are allowed to apply for citizenship.
If someone is here legally, I have no problem with them applying for citizenship.
The Founders utterly failed when it came to “birthright citizenship”.
No sane nation in the world would have such a policy and hope to survive.
Ridiculous advice from an uninformed fool-if someone can’t show/doesn’t have a legal visa, green card, etc they are not eligible to apply for citizenship and can be deported...

A footnote states that Mexican nationality is granted to children born abroad of a Mexican born parent. IOW, anchor babies born in the US retain parents Mexican nationality.
