20 years ago F-35 technology was found in science fiction books, now it's reality
F-35 is a game changer and one if the single best deterrents to war we have
On paper. Test pilots can't get it to work and have to shut down sensor systems since running too many at once gives false reports.
Isn’t her “BS” enough of a source?
Posts 22, 26 and 35 make compelling cases against it.
But you sound very sure in your analysis so I appreciate it.
What about the small payload that some say it carries?
Some wonder what role it would play in today’s world.
Some say it will NEVER be battle ready.
Those were all on this thread alone!
I have read about it but you don’t know what to believe anymore.
I guess you’ve followed it for a while and know a thing or two to make your statement. Thank you.
Well, they are. Congress has final say in this issue and any other budgetary issue. It’s in the Constitution. Check it out someday.
And this is the most comprehensive independent review of the aircraft available without a clearance. It does far more...
Dems: You have no control over anything anymore. Sit down and shut up, and let the adults be in charge for a while.
this is THE analysis to read from a very reputable source, and comprehensive.
Spend 15mins with this...
“No gun.”
Didn’t we learn about THAT mistake in Viet Nam?
You want a good plane that can supply close air support for troops on the front? Very few could do it better than the A-10 Thunderbolt Warthog. Essentially a flying cannon with air-to-surface missile launch mounts and bomb racks, it is an all-around badass craft, able to absorb enormous punishment and still limp home, after taking out tanks over the horizon and strafing armor and ground troops at treetop level, at 350 knots. With redundant control of air surfaces, landing gear, and a titanium underbelly, and its high-mounted engines, this plane can land on rough terrain, and more importantly, take off again after refueling and reloading the bomb load, missiles and ammunition.
I’ll take the phone number of the model, and hold off on the lemon please. :)
The Heritage piece that claims pilots much prefer the F-35 to the A-10?!
Used car salesmen have been arrested for less.
With modern anti-armor cluster munitions and JDAMs the F-35 can take out more armor than an A-10 and do it from 50,000 feet.
In contested air space.
Perhaps you have better, more reputable source?
Over promised, under delivered, way over cost.
Pretty simple.

How about a DoD memo instead of a car salesman brochure?
You’re ignorance as to the purpose of the STRIKE fighter says all I need to know.
Of course hanging bombs on the wings makes it “dirty”...all part of the objective...internal 1k/2k weapons are initial strike. Once suppression of enemy air defenses and air supremacy are established, the plane becomes a bomb truck.
The aircraft has carried, tested and released external stores multiple times...successfully, in addition to internal stores.
The testing of the aircraft isn’t completed yet, so I’m not entirely sure what it is you’re actually trying to say other than at present, the aircraft isn’t FULLY mission capable...testing of the systems is still ONGOING.
You do know what INITIAL operational capability means, don’t you? It means “basic”, not all inclusive.
The article’s insistence on mixing test with operational information also exposes their agenda...can’t mix sortie gen rates between the two because they’re not relevant.
It also omits mentioning SDB capability when discussing CAS...there are many points in this article that are; exaggeration, omission and just plain misinformation.
There are some truths in the article, but not enough to warrant giving this “article” a pass as being accurate.
Trying to weed out fact from fiction in this “article” plus facts that are current and relevant would take too long and would only leave you insisting that these folks are telling the truth and I’m just lying. Are there problems with the aircraft? Yes. Has any aircraft gone through development without problems? No.
And with that, I’ve already said more than I should have...actually, more than I wanted to.
Happy New Year to the echo chamber that is FR!

I hope that tank doesn't plan on moving in the time that it takes that munition to hit after being dropped from 50,000 feet.
The current software in the F-35 can't handle that, nor can the 3F software supposed to enter testing at the end of 2018 but almost certainly to be delayed.
How about the gun that it’s supposed to carry being hidden behind a door to keep it stealthy that when opened to fire jerks the aircraft and almost certainly assures a miss?
Actually that article takes its information from the DoD itself.
