What you are seeing is not a "Christian approach". It is a secular humanist approach as most Europeans are no longer truly Christian. That is why it is weak, confused, and "namby-pamby". They are merely coasting on their past cultures and distant memories of a robust (although occasionally badly misguided) Christian heritage. They believe more in St. Nicholas and Tannenbaum than God. For many centuries they had no trouble clearly seeing the threat of Islam and Jihad and resisting it with force of arms when necessary.

If by some strange circumstance this woman is reelected next year, she will be the last democratically elected Chancellor for a long, long time in Germany.
You can already hear the rivets popping and the metal groaning, just prior to explosion. The longer the CDU is able to hang on, the more brutal the cleansing will be.
CSU has already completely broken with them on policy.
The CSU in Bavaria will formally align with the AfD and change Europe.
It is inevitable.
Unfortunately there is very little sign that anyone is "integrating", rather the opposite. I understand the psychological need to persist in this fiction but it simply isn't what is happening.
Part of the problem is that there is no real benchmark for what we would call assimilation. The EU constitution, for example, is quite clear concerning equal rights and suffrage for women. The "immigrants" are not adopting this; in fact, the oppression of women is systemic and excused by the claim that it's an ineluctable part of Islamic culture. To claim that you are too liberal to place bounds on human behavior as a condition of entry is to excuse any abuse under that flag. Why not human sacrifice?
There are other well-established ways of providing protection to war refugees that do not involve immigration to a country halfway across Europe, or halfway across the world, for that matter. The expense of bringing such refugees to the United States, for example, wastes resources for the few that might better have been spent on the many. The expense of lifetime support of generations of unassimilable immigrants into European society presents a massively wasteful and unmanageable challenge. It's simply not the way to deal with the problem.
Unless, of course, something more such as a permanent and forcible change in that society's makeup is the real goal. That is not paranoia, it is fact. And it is the sort of thing that ought properly be decided in the ballot box, not as an elitist diktat. There is a fair chance that German voters would knowingly sell their culture and society out anyway, given the lumpen acceptance of some truly vile behaviors we have seen recently. There is also a fair chance that they would not. And if they don't, then somebody had better have a program ready to stop the bleeding.

Checking the name Merkel on the ballot was basically checking “I hate freedom and being able to walk the streets. I want my daughter raped/enslaved and my son killed. Thank you. May I have another”

When you're NOT operating in the normal day to day reality of living her statement tends makes sense.
My point: When you're living inside the bubble of "leadership security" it's easy to say anything regarding terror because you're out of touch with the common folk..
