Swiss court rules Muslim girls must swim with boys

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has ruled that Muslim parents in Switzerland will have to send their children to attend mixed-gender swimming lessons, despite conceding that religious freedoms were being interfered with, on the grounds that mixed-gender swimming lessons were part of a ‘full school curriculum’ and the children’s ‘successful integration’ into society.

According to the BBC, the case was initiated by two Swiss nationals of Turkish origin from Basel who wouldn’t send their teenage daughters to compulsory mixed-gender lessons.

Swiss education officials, however, said that exemptions were available only for girls who had reached the age of puberty – which the girls had not at the time.

When the parents refused to obey the directives, they were ordered in 2010 to pay a combined fee of €1,300 "for acting in breach of their parental duty". The parents then said the fine and the treatment meted out by the officials was in violation of article nine of the European Convention on Human Rights, which deals with the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.

In a statement, the ECHR said the refusal to exempt the girls had interfered with the right to freedom of religion. But it also said the law involved was designed to “protect foreign pupils from any form of social exclusion” and Switzerland was free to design its education system according to its own needs and traditions.

Muslim parents are such spongers. If they want to practice their religion in school, they should pay for private schools, as Christians have to do. No Western country is obligated to support the Muslim religion simply because Muslim children attend.

More worried about the Swiss girls swimming with Muslim boys who have been taught that these uncovered innocents are actually prostitutes from Allah for them.

Any Muslim boy who treats one of my daughters as a prostitute from his pig god will shortly be meeting the real God.

Glad we live in America and our Constitution protects religion.

Here is a cut & paste of Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Article 9 – Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
1. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief, in worship, teaching, practice and observance.

2. Freedom to manifest one’s religion or beliefs shall be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

You have religious freedom except:

Freedom to manifest one’s religion or beliefs shall be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.

"morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others."

S.A.S. v. France was a case brought for the European Court of Human Rights which ruled that the French ban on face covering did not violate European Convention on Human Rights’s (ECHR) provisions on right to privacy or freedom of religion, nor other invoked provisions. Two of the seventeen judges dissented.

Paragraph 2 of article 9 allows limitations on the right to religion if the limitations “are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety, for the protection of public order, health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.” Specifically, France invoked three grounds for limiting the right to wear burqa: “respect for equality between men and women”, “respect for human dignity” and “respect for the minimum requirements of life in society”.[4]

The court did not find the French government’s position that the ban was valid due to gender equality or human dignity concerns, but accepted that France’s claim that a ban was necessary for “living together” harmoniously was within in law. It underlined that the states had a wide margin of appreciation in cases like this.[4]

I have to side with the Muslims on this.

It’s one thing not to make special accommodations, but it is another to make a thing compulsory

So Christian Girls have to swim with mohammedan boys?

There just might be a teenie-tiny problem with their cunning plan.

I wonder if they will spot it.

Let's watch.

I really must object to the compulsory nature of this mixed-swimming thing.

I have been swimming in mixed groups (boys/girls) since I was a little one, so I don't have a personal problem with it.

However if it offends Islam, or the Old Order Mennonite faith, or Orthodox Judaism, or even a child's familial or personal sense of propriety, why the heck should it be compulsory?

Mixed swimming is not essential to national security or public order or good citizenship or the essential operation of a public school.

Why can't they do an "accommodation"? That's, to me, a no-brainer. I don't find the counter-arguments I've seen at all persuasive.

Since when has that mattered to Muslims? Aren't they into of that "child bride" custom?... you know, just like their Boss, Mohammad?

But, no wonder they are incensed. They lust after little girls (as well as little boys) so they assume everyone else does, too.
