It was not unusual that the passing driver was armed in this gun-friendly state with loose regulations.

Arizona has a "defense of third person" law

Pretty sure you can't try that in MA. If you see a state trooper being beaten to death in Boston, it's probably best to dial 911. If you are foolish enough to step in and save the cop's life, the police are likely to put you in prison. Not that they would want to, of course -- but we are a dumb state with dumb laws.

We need an concealed/open carry law from the federal government that will apply to every state of the union. Once you pass a fedearal course and have that federal license, you should be able to carry anywhere in the United States.

It would be the best ting that ever happened to combat foreign and domestic terrorism.

This could have been explained better.

** Arizona has a “defense of third person” law that allows someone to use deadly force against another who is threatening or injuring a third person. It was not unusual that the passing driver was armed in this gun-friendly state with loose regulations. **

Instead of “loose regulations” he should have said that honest citizens are able to exercise their second amendment rights to defend themselves, their family and others.

It was just a super-cucked, AP Style Sheet, manicured, wordsmithed liberal pablum poop phrase.

Country wide reciprocity would be a better options. The next democratic jack wagon would sign an executive order screwing with a federal CCW.

Carry of fire arms is only a small part of the equation. The ability to act as the Arizona citizen did without fear of prosecution is also needed.

The driver had the gun in his car and went back to retrieve it after asking the trooper if he needed help.

No name?

At one time, for those with a pistol license, Suffolk County in Long Island NY had a defense of a third person as well. I am not sure if it still does

I just got my CC in KY. This “defense of third person” thing came up. You can do it, but must understand the risk involved. If two guys are in a fight and you take sides by using your gun, and the one you shoot was actually the victim, underver cop, or similar, you are in BIG trouble.

i.e. you can do it, but you had better be sure.

This case seems to rise above that bar. ;-)

“Carry of fire arms is only a small part of the equation. The ability to act as the Arizona citizen did without fear of prosecution is also needed.”

I was just looking to find a state that will issue a CCW to a non-resident. Arizona is such a state. As a Californian, I don’t see this state “loosening” CCW permits in the populated counties any time soon, but if the Feds pass a “reciprocity law” a non-resident AZ permit would be a good thing to have. But AZ has gone one step further recently by adopting “constitutional carry.” While they will still issue anyone a CCW permit, you no longer need one there to carry any way you choose, concealed or open, as I read their current law.

"Once you pass a fedearal course and have that federal license, you should be able to carry anywhere in the United States."

Apparently this already exists for military veterans. My neighbor (ex- career Air Force) was "tooling up" for a multi-state RV tour, and he mentioned in passing that as a vet, he could apply for some sort of military exemption, which he did. (Note...I am not a vet, so have no clue as to whether what he told me is correct).

I wouldn't trust federal goons to rake my leaves, much less, make up a reasonable test for anything relating to my firearms. It's none of their business how, or when, I choose to exercise my Constitutional right to bear arms!

*************************************************

Supposedly, the trooper was getting his head repeatedly slammed on the ground. I would say he needed a lot of help.

That is true ... no CCW is required to carry concealed in Arizona. However, a CCW helps the gun purchase process. With a CCW the buyer walks out of the gun shop WITH their purchase that same day

Is that an AZ quirk? In your neighboring NM, I can walk in, buy my firearm, and walk out all within about 15 minutes (my last name is very unique, and my NICS check takes less time than waiting for a red light). No waiting period at all.
