The biggest potheads aren't who you'd guess
NYPost ^ | February 7, 2017 | Gabrielle Fonrouge

They are the city’s new pot-smoking professionals — ganja-puffing teachers...

...A Brooklyn teacher told The Post that it’s a good thing city education officials don’t randomly test school workers for the drug.

“If they did . . . they’d probably have to fire about 85 percent of their staff,” she said.

Today’s pot puffers say they’re no head cases...

If they drank before work, you would know it.

My BIL smokes it from dawn til bed time. My sister finally gave him the boot because she went to work smelling like skunk weed. He’s trying to get back in by going to church with her but he is always stoned.

Which is why competition for government schools will not only improve education for all, it will create accountability for teachers.

Thanks for the ping.

As a someone who uses cannabis as medicine (thank you, Lord!) I don’t support teachers being high on the job, for any reason. If they have a medical issue that they use cannabis for there are ways to utilize the plant that don’t include being high on the job.

As someone who graduated high school in 1979 I know there were at least 4 teachers who used cannabis for certain & 3-5 we always suspected did. Mostly they were drunks who came to work plainly wearing their hangover. Our basketball coach was notorious for coming to practice on a Saturday morning looking like angry death because he was so hungover.

Put the bong down and grow up! It is a selfish pursuit with no redeeming qualities. All the people I knew that toked up championed lives of lowest common denominator mediocrity or worse.
If you aren’t sick you shouldn’t be taking drugs!
Seems obvious doesn’t it?

So tired of it. But it will probably just get worse.

I was just getting ready to say that I had more than a couple of teachers who hid tiny and not so tiny flasks in their desks.

Fun Times, lol

The prob with thc(& it’s metatabolites) is that it can be deposited in fat tissue and stays for a long time...daily “hits” build up a large store...there is evidence in rats that the stored drug can be released during exercise or starvation..
.so one may not be able to confine its effect just when one takes it in...if you have enuf stored you could be on perpetual low level “high”...please note...some thc & metab. May cross into brain and be stored in the fats of the brain
..double whammy

The issue gets a little more complex when we consider...

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Olympic+swimmer+pot+smoker

Phelps, a Gold Medal-winning Olympic role model - said he used MJ to help him recover (that's cheating isn't it?) and sleep better in the context of his demanding workouts.

There's a difference between that and teachers who: "go about their daily routines while under the influence".... isn't there?

I was seeing this gal who was a well-respected public school teacher, plenty of awards, volunteered and served on the board of the local students with disabilities center, etc... The first couple of weekends, we ended the evening on her back porch and she would fire up a joint. I was never a pot smoker but heck, it made her horny so...

She explained that she very rarely smokes pot but occasionally, if it’s available, she will smoke it before going to bed, it relaxes her, etc...

She had two of her own kids in the high school where she taught. So, one day, we’re driving in her car and the phone rings and she has it on speaker. It’s her son, calling to let her know that yes, the guy with the weed called him back but he’s going to need “another $120”. She casually told him that she left “the” money in a jar in the kitchen cabinet and hung up. And she continued with our conversation without skipping a beat.

Damn! All of a sudden, she was like the chick from the show, Weeds! She gave her kids the cash and they would bring the pot home. Again, though, I was never a pot-smoker so when I realized that she was in it for more than just occasional use I decided I’d rather not be anywhere near the vicinity when the narcs get around to kicking in her door leading to the real possibility of seeing my mugshot alongside of hers under the headline, “Local teacher busted in drug raid.

Bummer. Fun while it lasted though.

my neighbor is a sixty something business man who is high all the time.
His daughter (30’s) told me “my dad is too old to smoke weed”
He also introduced it to his son when the kid was 13 or so. He’s a freakin’ idiot Idk if it’s the weed tho.

I don’t know any casual smokers. They either smoke it all the time or not at all. Because they smoke it all the time, they have to buy cheap stank weed. It smells like a skunk moved into the house. They can’t afford the decent stuff.

My freshman year, we had a guy on the hall that smoked the worst smelling weed. We found the RA’s huddled outside his door, ready to bust in. We told them that the smell was his girlfriend’s “vaginal odor”. They got so grossed out, they left.

I’m sure he could have found non-drug solutions to relax as tons of athletes have done.
That plant has powers that make people define themselves by it I swear. It’s like some fifties sci fi pod people movie.
Keep it away from me and mine. That’s where I am now.

I got randomly drug tested as required for my job. It was a hassle but I was never afraid of failing.

>>The prob with thc(& it’s metatabolites) is

The growing body of related physiological knowledge is fascinating.

"The ECS is also involved in voluntary exercise[3] and may be related to the evolution of the runner's high in human beings and related aspects of motivation or reward for locomotor activity in other animals."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endocannabinoid_system

As someone who's enjoyed a life enriched by various "locomotor activities" (aka sports) - that doesn't surprise me at all.

But being proficient enough to invoke that response system via something like running, or rock-climbing, or hunting, or WORKING -- requires effort, training, discipline, and risk.

I think pot is a short-cut to the activation of that reward system - without the effort, OR the actual benefits of the associated requisite healthy lifestyle.

Reward without risk and effort - isn't that what "progressive" culture is all about; and isn't that the "entitlement" these "teachers"/BS-Artists really have in mind?

When I was a teacher I saw moms who were high on drugs constantly.

They also came to school in bathrobes and slippers.

>>I’m sure he could have found non-drug solutions to relax as tons of athletes have done.

I’m sure tons of athletes have NOT excelled in their sport to the unique degree he has.

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=how+many+gold+medals+does+michael+phelps+have

And kids know it too.

>>That plant has powers that make people define themselves by it I swear.

In many cases that seems to depend upon the degree to which the individual lacks a functional world view and coping skills that enable them to otherwise maintain a stable and productive lifestyle.

IOW - They deal with challenges by pretending they don’t exist.  This can be further reinforced in social circles formed among similarly challenged/dysfunctional individuals.

But that doesn’t seem to apply to Phelps, who doesn’t appear to be using it as a means of escaping a dysfunctional reality.

>>Keep it away from me and mine. That’s where I am now.

It’s a legal reality in Colorado - where parents are faced with the challenge of raising children who can survive reality by making informed, proactive, and non-self-destructive choices.

40 years ago it was my dad teaching his kids not to use alcohol to escape reality - largely because he saw the catastrophically self-destructive results he and his LEO co-workers witnessed as they went about their cleanup and enforcement duties.

That didn’t stop us from enjoying an occasional glass of beer on the porch, or around the campfire.

Having been thus responsibly taught, although I enjoy an occasional beer - I never drink when working through financial, relationship, or other life challenges.  And I've never "gone about my daily routines while under the influence" (which is the most disturbing part of this article - that's not coping, it's failing to cope).   So, his strategy seems to have worked pretty well.

Now there are the hazards and alleged benefits of additional legal choices beyond alcohol... and that’s where I, along with lots of others, am now.

Can't just pretend it doesn't exist.

I”m pretty sure endorphins may play a part. I do remember playing high school and trying out for college football..there was no pain during games or practice...just about 2 hours after the pain would start.

Just think athletes are experiencing the positives effects of those chemicals without the nasty central nervous or peripheral side effects of thc and opiates..and it makes you healthier and it is legal.
