Turkey cutting off Euphrates water, Tishrin Dam ceases

MANBIJ- AKP authorities in Turkey cut off Euphrates River water from Tishrin Dam, consequently, ceasing the dam from generating electricity, and that resulted in depriving people from power.

MIHEMED RESO

People in North of Syria particularly in Kobanî canton and Manbij are suffering from cutting off the electricity as the Turkish government cut off Euphrates water which reduced water level in Tishrin Dam Lake, and therefore, the power cut off on many North Syria areas.

Since Friday night, the power totally has been cut off after ceasing Tishrin Dam from generating electricity. Soon, the management of Tishrin Dam released a statement and made the reasons of cutting off the electricity clear.

The statement contains the following:

“Due to the lack of water flowing from Turkey, and level of Tishrin Dam Lake lowering to minimum levels that could allow the station to work and generate, the Tishrin Dam station would be ceasing electricity generation starting from Thursday, 23 February till water flow and level in Tishrin Lake permits operating the generators”.

The administrative in services committee in Democratic Civil Administration in Manbij Muhammad Rasho said that they would insure fuel for people to operate generators in the city and neighboring villages to avoid the problem of cutting off, and Muhammad added “Turkey violated the international conventions of water and rivers energy by cutting off Euphrates water”.

The Turkish government cut off Euphrates Dam water many times from Syrian lands and that in the context of her battels and aggression against Syrian people.

The power outage affects Kobanî canton and Manbij. Senator John McCain visited our military recently near Kobani.

Since Turkey made a deal with ISIS in al-Bab, where ISIS agreed to leave al-Bab with safe passage, Turkey has been saying they will take Manbij. ISIS was already removed from that city by the Syrian Defense Force and is back under local civil rule (joint Arab and Kurd).

Turkey only pretends to be interested in ending ISIS, their reason for invading Syria? Because they can and because they want to control and hold portions of Syria and Iraq. And because they hate Kurds (a portion of SDF).

Short term affect of cutting of the water is ending the dam's electric generation. Long term affect is shutting off a source of water for people and farming operations. Syria is an arid country, without water crops die. Some of this area is very well know for the olives it produces.

Is this punishment for US support of Kurds? Who are a portion of the SDF in Syria.

Is it a warning move about Turkey's intention to invade an already liberated community?

If this Kurds get torqued off by the Turks they can always blow the dam.
The Turks are slipping away as allies and if we do improve relations with Russia they can piss off.

An interesting side effect of shutting off dams on rivers is they fill up then overflow.

No way Turkey should be part of NATO. They’ve become far to extremist.

They’re stirring up a lot of the problems in Syria. If we are forced to go into Syria, much of it will be because of the problems Turkey has caused.

The USA and Russia should put the hurt on Turkey by cutting them off. We need for Turkey’s government to fail so they will be forced to return to a more secular government controlled by the military.

Revelation 16:12New International Version (NIV)

12 The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.

Where did that come from?

Why would people who live by the dam blow it up.

Do you really think that Turkey is pissed off because of the US? Do you really think their hatred of the Kurds is because of harm the Kurds have done in the past?

Turkey has a clear history of genocide. They have never once admitted to doing it. Constant denials since WWI.

The strong military in Turkey has been the only thing keeping Islamic extremism in check since the era following WWI. That was eliminated this past summer with the “coup attempt”. Most honest informed observers have concluded that the coup was a fau coup.

Soon the referendum will make Erdogan’s current “emergency” powers permainent. He has jailed all the political opposition, killed the top military officers, fired or jailed academic critics and closed all press that says anything critical of him. Is he already a dictator?

This is not as simple as supporting a NATO member.

Thanks for that observation, I had not thought about that consequence.

A close friend of mine in Syria sent me this today.

“Can NATO survive Turkey?”

https://www.aei.org/publication/can-nato-survive-turkey/

It’s a question that has been asked for a long time. It has become more acute since Erdogan came to power.

He believes he has been chosen by ‘his god’ to be king over a great empire. Restore the Ottoman empire. He is terminally arrogant. That is very dangerous as a consequence.

This is in preparation for the assault on our Kurdish allies in Manbij.

Yes, I agree. And it is because Erdogan’s agenda has been foiled by his own actions.

Good article.

The USA and Russia should join forces and put the economic squeeze on Turkey. Russia is one of their most important trading partners. It would devastate their economy and weaken Erdogan. Hopefully to the point to where the more secular military regains control. Even if Erdogan was gone, I wouldn’t trust Turkey because they’re still a mostly Muslim country.

No way should Turkey be part of NATO

How does this work, with NATO including Turkey? Isn't shutting off that dam a crime against humanity? Isn't it in effect an act of war? How does NATO handle it without getting embroiled on the wrong side in the Mideast mess the US created?

As long as you don’t post the beheading portion of Revalation, I don’t worry. Well, that isn’t true, Revelation makes it more likely that the ultimate battle is against Islam. I think that and his understanding of the Koran is what drove Jefferson to his conclusions. Yet here we are doing the things he said would never work.. sending ransoms and protection money to a people who keep 30 million slaves today.. more than in the history of the world.

“Mostly a Muslim country”?

Yes, as I have read, it is 98% Muslim.

Yes, as I have read, it is 98% Muslim.

Then there’s a 98% chance I don’t trust them on anything.

You are correct.

Hope it doesn’t last that long. Turkey may be forced to release water because of backup.
