The Brits hurrying to become German citizens

The Brexit debate in the UK is focusing on the rights of EU migrants in the country, among them about 300,000 Germans. Many people are worried about what will happen to them after Brexit. But how are the 100,000 Brits in Germany feeling? The BBC's Damien McGuinness says many are hurrying to apply for citizenship.

"So, when are you becoming German?" It's one of those questions that always seems to crop up when I'm chatting to British friends here in Berlin these days. Most are either applying for German citizenship or counting the days until they've spent enough time here to be eligible.

That's because no-one knows what will happen to them once Britain leaves the EU. These are not the bronzed "expats" of the tabloid imagination - living it up in the sun, glass of gin in one hand, golf club in the other. They are young freelancers worried that if they need visas their work will dry up. Or pensioners living in rented flats, surviving on fixed incomes tied to a shrinking pound.

I suggest they leave Londonistan for Saudi Arabia. Then they can more accurately discuss apartheid, segregation, discrimination, and immigration bans.

There might be a number in the financial sector spooked into scrambling for Frankfurt but I believe they’ll live to regret that decision. London was a capital of finance before the EU and it will remain so after the EU. Frankfurt is a regional center, not a world center.

Well, I guess I can’t blame him. The bitter cold in Siberia would be brutal to deal with.

India and Germany have ratified the Social Security Agreement (SSA), which will come into force from May 1 this year, to help promote more investment flows between the two countries.

Stop telling this narrative; no one will believe

Germany has a 8% trade surplus because they make products people want to buy

German industry has too many good paying jobs and too few job applicants

The Federal German Gov’t runs a massive budget surplus every year which the ‘Swabian Hausfrau’ uses to pay down German Federal Debt instead of squandering

The typical German town budget is always in the black with no debt.

The average German working stiff gets 6 weeks paid vacation every year, has every other Friday off, plus retires with a fat pension.

LOL
