Maybe. Though a popular restaurant in Austin was destroyed years ago when some homeless built a fire on a cold, windy night right beside the building. Embers flew up to the roof and that was it.

Really? Where at? Tons of buildings under construction in this area and that has never happened. I love generalizations - they are rarely true.

This is horrible news. The Maryland General Asylum (Assembly) is shoving through legislation requiring a 24/7 “fireguard” at all new multi-family construction sites.

The impetus was a building that was burned during the Baltimore riots. This will add more fuel to their fire. pun intended.

Reality-a riotous crowd shows up, fire guard runs away. He’s not stopping someone bound and determined to do harm.

I suspect this was an arson fire. Even though the structure is wood, there’s nothing that will spontaneously combust.

Spontaneous combustion is possible.

Search: “linseed oil rags spontaneous combustion”

Furniture makers and refinishers have know this for more than a hundred years.

I’ve spent a pretty good amount of time on apartment jobsites. Not too much linseed oil and oily rags.

Betcha not much fine furniture refinishing occurs either.....

;>)

Didn’t say it happened there, just that spontaneous combustion can and does occur when conditions pertain.

Absolutely it can, but not on that type of jobsite.

Most of the wood is either packed tightly on pallets, called Hacks or installed.

One article said it appeared the fire started on the second floor.

I suspect it had some flammable assistance. At the point the construction was complete, there is no power to the building yet. All power is supplied by portable generators, which are all locked up in trailers or taken in the framers trucks. There is virtually nothing that can combust on its own.

It was a professional looking job. Only the best framers will build a six-story wood frame. It takes lots of specialized design and details.
