Trump should expand the SOTUS to 11 members and appoint to strong conservatives. There we lead 7-4 and could pick up more seats as the libs finally die.

When the Constitution mandated a lifetime appointment for Supreme Court justices, the life expectancy in the US was 48 years old. Now they may serve for 48 years! There ought to be a 20 year term limit for justices.

That is my fear - that the next dem POTUS will look at Trumps conservative court & simply decide that 11 or 13 is a better number...

One good thing now that the Republicans have exercised the nuclear option for future Supreme Court nominees when the Senate is majority Republican is the nominee no longer has to waste face time visiting Senate Democrats who have no intention of voting for the nominee.

I prefer Kennedy step down first than Ginsberg. Because Kennedy is completely unreliable on any case related to immigration, being the demon who butchered Arizona’s SB1070 law.

As Sotomayors Type 1 Diabetes very likely could mean she won’t make it to 70

Agree. Kennedy is simply unreliable. Replacing Kennedy with an originalist would give the country a Supreme Court with a majority of Justices with integrity for the first time in 70 years.

FDR appointed 9 Justices, all “Progressives”. Truman appointed 4 more “Progressives”. Then Eisenhower, on the advice of Nixon, appointed Earl Warren, one of the worst Chief Justices of all time.

Yes, and had an ardent desire to have the first woman president appoint her successor.

Ginsberg is an extremely political feminist. It is why she was appointed by Clinton. All of her decisions are determined by her politics.

Maybe we should start a pool on FR. Name the date that Ruth Buzzy Ginsberg kicks the bucket. I’m in for a quarter.

Join me in praying Trump will get to replace at least 3 SCOTUS justices in his first term.

She ( Ginsburg ) screwed the left over by refusing to retire.

God will be retiring her very soon.

Despite buzz in legal circles about his seat, Justice Anthony Kennedy has yet to give any clear indication of his plans. But if you thought the fight over Neil Gorsuch was bad, the fight over a seat that could potentially shift the balance of the entire court will likely be even uglier.
I realize she’s a bit older than we would like, but Trump would hard-pressed to find a better nominee than strongly conservative/libertarian Janice Rogers Brown. As a black woman, she would be hard for the Dems to oppose. Like I said, though - born in 1949, she is a little older than our ideal nominee.
Even if true, that is a moot point. What difference does it make what the Dems say about a nominee, now that they have vainly shot their bolt opposing Gorsuch? I’m relieved that they did that; now there is not longer even putatively a reason to care what the Democrats think.

Kennedy, who has sat at the decisive fulcrum of the most important Supreme Court cases for more than a decade. Replacing him with a reliable conservative would tip the court to the right, even if no other seat comes open under Trump

...unless Gorsuch turns out to be another Roberts/Kennedy, in which case you have to replace Kennedy with a freedom-lover (conservative isn't exactly what you want, more like a libertarian) just to maintain status quo ante.

Concur. But she was asked and declined.

Pity that.
