If the passenger was breaking any laws he should have been arrested, but he was not arrested.

However, the police who dragged him off may have broken some laws and at the time the police were acting as agents of United Airlines.

United will have to write a check.

Boycott United!

The passenger’s past has nothing to do with the crime on the plane!

“...and Congress might be compelled to pass legislation prohibiting overbooking.”

_________________________________

They already HAVE laws regarding overbooking. Too many in fact. They would first need to get rid of laws allowing flight crews to fly so as to meet safety and maintenance schedules.

Which is a bad idea.

They would need laws that require pilots and flight crews to work excessive hours.

Which is a bad idea.

They would need laws that require compensation of passengers that are bumped due to overbooking.

Which they already have.

You want Congress to pass MORE laws? To do what exactly?

I agree.

We can’t allow United to continue in business with this attitude.

OK, he is a dirt bag.

But united didn’t know this, and if they did, they’d probably be in deep $hit with the social police now.

The man, Dr. David Dao of Louisville, Kentucky, had to see patients in the morning. Dao was trying to regain his medical license he surrendered in February 2005 after being convicted of drug-related offenses. In 2015 the medical board lifted the suspension and allowed him to practice medicine again. Last year, the medical board imposed restrictions on his right to practice. He can only practice internal medicine in an outpatient facility one day a week. This circumstance made it imperative that Dao attend to his one day a week patients.

Maybe they knew his record.

Chicago airport cops??

OK, I'll play. They grabbed him because he was reaching for his prescription pad?

His past does not in any way excuse the actions of United Airlines.

No, it does not. United got lucky with guy. His past might mitigate some of the damage. But how about the next flier who makes any kind of a stink? Will his/her personal life/criminal record/issues be spoonfed to a compliant media? Just something fliers might want to keep in mind before flying the friendly skies.

A paying passenger has the crap beat out of him and the United Airlines CEO defends the thugs who beat the passenger.

——“I also emphatically stand behind all of you, and I want to commend you for continuing to go above and beyond to ensure we fly right.”
— United CEO Oscar Munoz, congratulating his workers for an incident that resulted in a passenger’s injury

According to what I’m reading elsewhere United has the right to bump passengers BEFORE they board the plane but not AFTER they board the plane.

As I learned on another thread, they actually do, and it is all codified in US Law. I too was outraged until I learned more.

I still find it very strange that the whole country is appalled and aghast at this one isolated incident.

Whereas every day - tens of thousands of WORSE more OUTRAGEOUS and OFFENSIVE incidents are being carried out at our US airports to flyers everday.

I’m speaking of the sexual assaults by the TSA (Touching, Squeezing and Assaulting).

Some dopey doctor causes a scene and gets his ass kicked - OMG! Clutch them pearls.

Men, women and children are groped and we just yawn.

I ask you. What’s the bigger outrage?

The solution was simple. Keep raising the offer until 4 people take the money and get off. The only issue here is United’s cheapness.

Actually, the amounts are set in law and contract I believe. United was within their right to do what they did. I am not saying that it doesnt suck hard, and that United isnt going to end up paying, but the vast majority of Freepers dont understand the law. I know I didnt when I first heard of this. FR set me straight though.

With so much over regulation of the drugs and medical people, I’d like to know how many Doctors and staff get caught up in charges. Betcha it’s doubled simply since Obamacare.
