” Is the Honda Ridgeline a truck since it is unibody on subframe?”
Mini-van.
I had a 2001 Jetta TDI that was great until the cam belt splintered at 150K. Worst mileage ever was 39mpg. Usually 47 mpg. Paid 2500 for it and drove it 55,000 miles. I miss it.
Was basically given a P.O.S. 25-year old Mercedes 300 SD (83 or 84 model) Huge cast iron turbo that took a minute to spool up. But the faster it went, the faster it went. The car leaked, the windows barely worked, the A/C had been removed. But I loved that 5-cylinder engine and would have the car still today had not some teenager totaled it.
Volkswagen emissions scandal
Health consequences
Deaths
A peer-reviewed study published in Environmental Research Letters estimated that approximately 59 premature deaths will be caused by the excess pollution produced between 2008 and 2015 by vehicles equipped with the defeat device in the United States, the majority due to particulate pollution (87%) with the remainder due to ozone (13%). The study also found that making these vehicles emissions compliant by the end of 2016 would avert an additional 130 early deaths.[158][157]
Earlier studies published in media sources, that had not been subjected to peer review, provided point estimates ranging from approximately 10 to 350 excess deaths in the United States related to the defeat devices based on varying assumptions.[159]
Non-fatal health impacts
NO2 is a precursor to ground-level ozone and may cause respiratory problems "including asthma, bronchitis and emphysema".[160][161][162] Nitrogen oxides also amplify the effect of fine particulate soot that causes heart problems, a form of air pollution estimated to kill 50,000 in the United States annually.[163]
A peer-reviewed study published in Environmental Pollution estimated that the fraudulent emissions are associated with 45 thousand disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and a value of life lost of at least 39 billion US dollars.[164]
Axel Friedrich, formerly with the German equivalent of the E.P.A. and a co-founder of the International Council on Clean Transportation claims "It's not just fraud it's physical assault."[165]
My 2005 TDI gets between 36-40mpg. Sucker is wonderful. I was hoping to move in 2-4 years to a newer model.
hp is not what one feels as power in a vehicle it’s torque. And the 90HP Diesel out torques the 115Hp gassed by a lot.
torque baby is power
hp is merely a proxy for torque
I want an old TDI Jetta wagon.
LOL
This wasn't just passing. Sustained driving maybe up to 135 mph for 12 to 15 miles. AND slower traffic pulling over to let us by. Awesome.
Yes it is. Thanks for pointing out the objective reality here.
I had a TDI. Of the four diesel cars I have owned over the years, it was far and above the best and VERY clean. The whole scandal is as joke and a tribute to the insanity of regulators.

Well I DID change from the Golf TDI at 50 mpg to a Jeep Sahara that has its own tank truck that follows me everywhere.
A good friend still has his ‘14 Q5 3.0 TDI. Awesome vehicle, really.
I loved my diesel. My wife loved hers too.
Excellent fuel mileage, great range. Smooth power.
Check Audi's Diesel Powered race cars at 24 Hours Le Mans. That will give you a different perspective about Diesels. Why do you hate Diesels?
06,07,08,11 where the years when they ran Diesels, and wiped out the competition's gas engines.
VAG cheated while other companies complied with the regulations.
That should not be allowed, even if you disagree with the regulations.
But VAG is part-owned by the German government and, in Europe, has received protection from stiff penalties and fines.
That should not be allowed just because a company is partly-owned by the government that regulates it.
DieselGate is a great example of the failure of government.....failure to write regulations clearly that can be enforced easily and failure to apply the same standards to privately owned businesses as government owned businesses.
Ah... This explains why my recent VW TDI search on Carmax came back with no results...
Now what’s I do? I’m too tall for a subcompact and totally safe battery technology ain’t there yet. And when battery technology crosses the “Safety Rubicon” the costs will absolutely skyrocket.
Not really true. The consumer doesn't want the diesels that are being offered, with the urea bottles.
Horsepower is all the same only if it is given at a fixed RPM and no other. An engine outputting 100 horses at 2800 RPM will feel a heck of a lot more powerful than one which produces 100 horses at 4400 RPM.
