The Catholic Church has not been known for its use of the Greek. There was a post by Msgr Pope where he noted he'd discovered the Greek. Do Catholics not study Greek in their seminaries?

In fairness the pastors at my church admit they took their two required Greek classes and moved on to other things. They don't use it in other words.

It's a shame too because the Greek sheds a light on the thinking of the NT writers. I wish more would employ the Greek.

"I didn't reject my mother until the day she died" doesn't mean I did reject her after she died.

Well it certainly does...

"He shall reign until I put all his enemies under His feet" doesn't mean that afterward, He then stops reigning. You are making a simple grammatical error here.

It couldn't mean anything else...

3. Funny that "the context" tells YOU that Joseph and Mary had other kids of their own, but didn't tell Justin Martyr or Jerome or the Greeks or the Armenians or the Assyrians or ANY of the other early Christian exegetes and liturgists. I think your context app has been hacked.

According to your own religion, your top authorities didn't believe Mary remained a virgin while married to Joseph

Immaculate Conception—Joachim and Anna—a Forgery

Forgery “Source of Various Traditions”

CATHOLICS NOW glibly tell you that Mary’s father and mother were named Joachim and Anna. The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception has to do more with the mythical Anna than with Mary herself. They tell that Anna was miraculously born without original sin, that Mary might be born without it, that Christ might be born without it!!! But their authority for the names of Joachim and Anna rests on a clumsy forgery! As per the following:

“Apocryphal Gospels of Catholic Origin.—The Proto-evangelium Jacobi, or Infancy Gospel of James, purports to have been written by ‘James the brother of the Lord,’ i.e. the Apostle James the Less. It is based on the canonical Gospels which it expands with legendary and imaginative elements, which are sometimes puerile and fantastic. The birth, education, and marriage of the Blessed Virgin are described in the first eleven chapters and these are the source of various traditions current among the faithful. They are of value in indicating the veneration paid to Mary at a very early age. For instance, it is the ‘Proto-evangelium’ which first tells that Mary was the miraculous off-spring of Joachim and Anna, previously childless; that when three years old the child was taken to the Temple and dedicated to its service, in fulfilment of her parents’ vow” (Cath. Ency., I. 607).

“ST.” BERNARD, “ST.” THOMAS AND “ST.” AUGUSTINE, DID NOT BELIEVE IN THE DOCTRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION. (CATH. DIC., 428, 431). THAT MEANS THAT THEY DID NOT APPROVE OF THESE DOCUMENTS THAT WERE IN COMMON USE AMONG CATHOLICS.

What's decisive to me is that you won't find an actual Greek speaking Christian in two millennia who agrees with Helvetius' notion that Jesus' "brethren" all sprang from Mary's uterus.

I have a friend here, who is from Greece. He speaks Greek, Hebrew, Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and Italian. Right now, he is in Bangkok, but will be back soon.
I asked him to look at the Greek, where Jesus' brothers are named. He said the Greek indicated to him, that those named as His brothers, came from the same mother, and that indicated Mary and Joseph did the evil deed (sex)
We could probably go back and forth on this, from now until doomsday, and NEVER come to an agreement. Such is life. 😀😆😄

Is Jesus God?

Is the phrase, Mother of GOD, found in the book that ROME assembled and gave to the world?

If Jesus had other brothers and sisters through Mary, He would have not entrusted her after His death to the care of his disciple John, since it would have been the other children's duty to take her into their homes.

And you know this FACT how?

That would be a mighty strange thing for the angel to command if GOD considered Mary to be a perpetual virgin and spouse of the Holy Spirit.

And GOD; in His infinite power; could have FED Mary with manna and taken care of her by ANGELS instead of entrusting her into John's care.

Why she did NOT ascend into heaven in a whirlwind has always baffled me.

I guess John had a BIG room in his house where all the petitioners for Mary's help could wait until she had a timeslot available to hear them.

Then your translations and arguments are equally unpersuasive.

I think I’ll take your graduate level Greek over an English translation of a Latin translation of the Greek any day.

Considering Mary's relationship with the Holy Spirit who impregnated her, resulting in the Incarnation of the Son of God, in a plan formed before the foundation of the world, I don't think God was wrong in preserving her virginity as a token of her unique honor.

You all have a real problem on your hands because when the Holy spirit impregnated Mary, she was already a man's legal wife.

Sorry ladies; I hate to interrupt, but the BOOK does NOT say "impregnate".

Luke 1:35   Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

And the angel answering, said to her: The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the most High shall overshadow thee. And therefore also the Holy which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:1-4    Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a narration of the things that have been accomplished among us;

According as they have delivered them unto us, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word:

It seemed good to me also, having diligently attained to all things from the beginning, to write to thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

That thou mayest know the verity of those words in which thou hast been instructed.

Luke 1:1-4      New International Version (NIV)

Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

Oh that ALL of us would be so diligent in our studies: to be worthy to be called; as were the Bereans - Noble.

Acts 17:11  King James Version (KJV)

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Such a charge makes God out to be a wife-stealer: blasphemous.

Then don't MAKE the charge.

Strawmen are so flimsy anyway.

There's so much to love about St. Joseph, especially in obeying the Angel and carrying through with things he could not have fully understood.

Matthew 1:20-24   Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)

20 But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared to him in his sleep, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her, is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name JESUS. For he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying:

23 Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24 And Joseph rising up from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took unto him his wife.

What we don't know is whether those termed Jesus' brothers were step-brothers, legal half-brothers, cousins or some other degree of close kindred, as is common in the Biblical usage.

HMMMmmm...

What we do know is that they were not sons of Mary.

HMMMmmm...

You batting .500 so far

They are never termed 'sons of Mary',

Thank you for backing up the Prot's position that the term 'Mother of GOD' is not it the bible.

That is something about which Scripture says exactly nothing.
